JJ Spaun calls it his best putting day this year
JJ Spaun navigated Oakmont’s tough setup in the US Open round with sharp putts and rough play.

It could be a long day for several golfers competing at the US Open on Saturday after the second round didn’t finish on Friday due to weather.
Thirteen players did not complete their second round after heavy rain and local lightning forced officials to pause play. The second round will resume at 7:30am ET.
Once the cuts are official, the third round begins with Sam Burns (-3 in the tournament) and JJ Span (-2) at the top of the leaderboard.
Viktor Hovland (-1), Adam Scott (E), and Ben Griffin (E) round out the top five.
Bryson Deccanbeau won’t defend the 2024 US Open Crown as he plans to miss a cut.
DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson and Akshay Bhatia all finished with 10 overpals. Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantray and Shane Lowry are among other celebrities who seem to miss the cut (projected in 7 overs).

Once the third round begins, those already on the golf course are struggling to soak the course and post a positive score. In almost two hours of the round, only two golfers have surpassed par, with few birdies. Brian Harmon improved to six overs by getting a birdie on a par 5, while Matthew Fitzpatrick scored the same score after a 31-foot birdie putt in a 600-foot par 5 hole.
Rory McIlroy, who won the tournament in 2011 and placed second in 2023 and 2024, began his third round, sitting on 36 holes from six overs.
Sam Burns is the leader of the US Open’s 36-hole after the second round was completed early Saturday morning, and is just one of five players heading over the weekend.
The third round is ongoing with golfers who barely made the cut line with seven over par, starting with Philip Burberry Jr. and Cam Davis, one of nine golfers set to tee off before 10am.
