Taylor Swift confronts news rumours and explains Fallon’s “Wood”

Date:

The audience cheered loudly while Jimmy Fallon introduced Taylor Swift, almost like a tour of Elas in Studio 6B.

Over three blocks, Fallon asked about his engagement to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelsey, who spoke at Selena Gomez’s wedding, and the inspiration behind “Wood.” And Swift answered a difficult question.

Before coming out, Fallon performed a dizzying tap dance with Bob Mackie-esque showgirls. After the intro to the show was played, his monologue was filled with Swift jokes.

“This is the most popular ticket in town,” he said. “Today, I called Pope Leo and said, ‘I’m sorry, but I don’t have any seats anymore.’ I just want to thank the Swifit people all over the world who are watching over us tonight.”

The joke didn’t stop. “Even though it’s October, like everyone else, I spent the weekend looking for Easter eggs. I listened to the albums many times this weekend. I think I’m in love with Travis. … Life as a Showgirl is full of references and mathematics to Shakespeare, but at this point Taylor is basically the Ministry of Education. … Taylor broke multiple records on Spotify. … Shakespeare was like, ‘I’m a murderer.'” Also. ‘”

The band was in a flurry when Fallon tried to make a joke other than Swift, “Stop wasting time, take her out.”

As the audience throbbed, she appeared from the blue curtains in a silver Giuseppe di Morabito dress.

“I’m starting to see, and congratulate you on your engagement,” Fallon said. As the camera zooms in on a rock designed by Kindred Lubeck, Swift explained how Kelce proposed to her when she announced her 12th season after recording the podcast on August 13th.

“He had it for a really long time before handing it over to me,” Swift said, flashing the “Old Mine Brilliant Cut” diamond. “He’s the person I’ve ever met. I don’t mean anything to anyone else, but the fact is that this is the person I’m with every day.”

Fallon moved to the rumor factory and read out five rumors that made gossip headlines about the singer. At least one was true.

  • She turned down the Super Bowl halftime show because the NFL refused to allow her to own footage.
  • Your best friend, Ed Sheeran, has learned of her engagement, just like everyone else. (That was true. “He doesn’t have a phone,” she said.
  • In your speech at Selena Gomez’s wedding, you joked that Selena had hit you to the altar. (She said she had spoken about her outfit when she met Gomez in 2008.)
  • He was spotted walking a mysterious dog in Florida.
  • You can hear Travis Kelce performing his harmony on “Opalite.”

From the commercial break, the two quickly fought the match.

  • Who was the last person to text? “Serena”
  • What was the last movie you saw? “The Next Battle… I’m very fortunate to be able to live in the same era as Paul Thomas Anderson.”
  • What related activities did you do last fall? “I baked cinnamon roll the other day.”
  • Not on a new album, what was your last song you listened to? “So I listened to The Tortured Poets Division to say goodbye.”
  • Is there a song from the artist you last listened to? “Tate McRae’s new song, “Tit for Tat,” is here.”
  • The last person you said, “So, baby, is it show business for you?” Without a answer found, she told Fallon.

To finish her part of the show, Swift sat at the round table with Fallon, who asked about the inspiration behind some of her songs. They began with “Opalite” and moved on to her provocative song “Wood.”

“I thought, “I wanted to bring this to the studio and do a song that sounds like a long-awaited, timeless sound,” she said of the song, which blushed listeners and clenched the pearls. “It really started in a nonsense place. I don’t know what happened, hey, once we got in there, we started the vibe and I don’t know.”

Swift and Fallon have been sharing memorable late-night moments for over a decade.

Early appearances

On October 6th, this will be his seventh appearance on “The Tonight Show Sterling Jimmy Fallon.” Swift has been drinking coffee on the late-night show since August 13, 2014, when she told Fallon that 24-year-old Swift would be appearing at the MTV Video Music Awards. He pressed her to reveal more about the next project she was teasing, the fifth album, 1989, but she remained silent. Swift also appeared in Fallon’s comedy “Ew,” where he played a teenager with braces spelling his name Sarah. Swift had her hair tied up in colorful scrunchies and wore a scramble letter necklace with the character’s name Natalie.

“This is a Pegacorn picture I drew. It’s a unicorn and a Pegasus, and this is the invention of the picture I drew,” Swift said, showing off his glittering mythical creatures.

When he returned in February 2015, Fallon told Swift and himself, gestured and hand-gestured that he “feels this bond.” Fallon held up the cover of Vogue, posing with model Carly Cross, Fallon explained how the two women played a game in which they painted each other’s faces without looking down at Vogue.com. He asked Swift if he could make a version of himself.

In the interview, Fallon also performed a bit of dancing with Swift and Jumbotron in New York City. In the skit, the camera captures fans dancing during the match, showing the two of them throwing out their popcorn, acting robots, and posing back to back.

Two years later, Swift returned to his “Reputation” era, performing an acoustic piano version of Fallon’s favorite album, “New Years Day.”

In the opening monologue on November 13th, 2017, Fallon admitted that her mother, Gloria Fallon, had held her and her sister’s hand three times, “I love you.” Swift performed an acoustic version of his song, which brought tears to tears.

“My heart is alive”

On October 3, 2019, Swift’s mother Andrea Swift sent Fallon footage of Swift recovering from laser eye surgery. He became groggy and the singer nearly cried as he grabbed a banana and tried to eat it. The video switches to her lying on the bed and chewing a banana. The mother warns, “Please don’t eat this and sleep.”

Swift replied cheerfully, “I’m not sleeping, my heart is alive.”

Fast forward to November 11, 2021, Swift teased the release of “Red (Taylor’s Version)” and explained the Easter Egg process (and he set up clues for the “Tortured Poets Division” three years ago), confronted them in a round of “Box of Lies” and tried to sabotage each other about strange items hidden within the mystery box.

Her sixth appearance was on October 24th, 2022. Swift wore a black and white three-piece suit with Dorothy Schumacher’s chevron print. She announced that she would soon be on a tour (later the Elas Tour), discussing “All To Well (10 Minute Version),” the music video, which became a short film, and previewed the “Vijeweled” music video.
