Taylor Swift is watching the Chiefs’ final home game of the season, likely watching as her fiancé Travis Kelce takes in his final snaps at the stadium where he’s been an anchor for the past 13 years.
The 36-year-old superstar arrived at the Christmas Day game wearing a red leather jacket and black miniskirt with her family – father Scott Swift, mother Andrea Swift and brother Austin Swift.
One episode of Swift’s Ellas Tour documentary series released this week focused on how her close-knit family made the tour a success.
Will Travis Kelce retire?
With his Dec. 25 appearance, Swift has played in a full home game for the 2025 season, marking the second year in a row that he has appeared in only Arrowhead’s games during the regular season. But amid all the holiday cheer, one question looms in Kansas City. Will jersey number 87 be retired?
USA TODAY sportswriter Jack McKessie noted that talk of retirement escalated after the Chiefs were eliminated from playoff contention in Week 15. Kelce’s brother, Jason Kelce, said during ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” that Travis needed “some distance” before making a life-changing decision.
Kelce discussed the possibility of retiring along with another legendary tight end, Tony Gonzalez, in an interview that aired before the game on Prime.
“Obviously, I think I’m feeling motivated after seeing the way this game ended with a sour taste in my mouth, but I had to make the decision that was right for me,” Kelce said. “I still have a lot of love for this game.”
Kelce, who turns 37 next year, now faces a crossroads similar to the one Jason encountered. His contract runs through the end of the 2025 season and the roster is on the verge of change, meaning the Chiefs will end the year outside of the postseason for the second time in his career.
3 years of supporting Swift
While Kelce considers her future, Swift’s three years in the NFL spotlight defined her time in football.
In 2023, she shocked the Swifties by showing up at a Chiefs-Bears game sitting next to Donna Kelce. Since then, she has played in dozens of games over three seasons. For the first two seasons, she jet-setted between stops on the Ella Tour, including a dramatic sprint from Tokyo to Las Vegas for a spot in the 2024 Super Bowl after performing four consecutive concerts. In season 2, she famously turned the Arrowhead Tunnel into her personal airstrip. Season 3 took a quieter approach, with Swift attending only home games and keeping her appearances low-key and low-profile.
Swift’s rise as an NFL regular included two consecutive Super Bowl trips. She kissed Kelce on the field after the Chiefs beat the 49ers in overtime in 2024. A year later, during the Chiefs-Eagles rematch, the cameras caught her for less than five seconds, prompting loud boos from Eagles fans.
Swift lifts the curtain on the couple’s love story, which blends soccer and fairy tales, in the Disney+ documentary series. Her mother, Andrea Swift, admitted to doing due diligence early on and urged her daughter to give the tight end a chance. Swift says he fell in love with the American sport after Kelce described soccer as “like a violent chess” on their first date. He proposed to her on Aug. 13, after the taping of the “New Heights” episode in which she released her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl.”
