Taylor Swift has thanked fans for the “lovely bouquet” of flowers after setting a new record. This time it’s “The Life of a Showgirl.”
The album officially marks her 15th top spot on the Billboard 200 album chart, Billboard reported on Monday, October 13th. Swift’s latest album, released on Oct. 3, debuted with 4.02 million equivalent album units (including pure album sales and streaming activity) in the U.S. for the week ending Oct. 9, according to Luminate.
“Four million words of gratitude to my fans and four million reasons to be more proud of this album than ever,” Swift said in an Instagram post on Monday, Oct. 13. “Thank you for celebrating this project by going to the theater, investing in the record, streaming the record, watching the video, buying the CD, reading the poem I wrote on the inside of the package, and soaking in ‘The Life of a Showgirl.'” I will always cherish this feeling. ”
“I will cherish this feeling forever,” Swift added. “That’s amazing.”
On December 31, 2023, she overtook Elvis for the most weeks at the top of the charts, second only to the Beatles. Today, the album dethroned Netflix’s “Kpop Demon Hunters” soundtrack, which fell to second place.
Of the 4 million album units, nearly 3.5 million were pure album sales. Specifically, a total of 3,479,500. The record for album sales in a single week was previously set by Adele’s 25 in 2015.
“I’ll never forget the excitement I felt when my first album sold 40,000 copies in its first week in 2006,” Swift wrote on Monday. “Since I was 16 years old, I could never have imagined that so many people would be interested enough in my music to invest their time and energy. Since then, I have tried to meet and thank as many people as possible for giving me the opportunity to pursue this crazy dream.”
According to Billboard, all songs from “The Life of a Showgirl” debuted on the Billboard Hot 100, occupying the top 12 spots. This marked a new milestone for Swift, allowing “The Life of a Showgirl” to remain at the top of the charts.
“The Fate of Ophelia,” “Opalite,” “Elizabeth Taylor,” “Father Figure” and “Wood” round out the top five.
To promote “The Life of a Showgirl,” Swift partnered with TikTok, Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon to host fan events, including a Los Angeles pop-up, a New York pop-up, a lyrical scavenger hunt, and an Orange Cardigan fan event, respectively.
The singer also appeared on “The Graham Norton Show” and numerous radio stations in London, and after returning to the United States a few days later appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”
In conjunction with “The Life of a Showgirl,” Taylor partnered with AMC Theatres, Regal and Cinemark to produce her own film, “Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl,” which topped the box office in its opening weekend.
