Target is redesigning its baby department and creating a new “Baby Boutique” to make it easier to shop for strollers, car seats and other big-ticket items.

The boutique-style concept will launch in around 200 stores starting in March, and the updated online experience will be available on March 15th. Target has not yet shared all participating stores.

These changes are part of Target’s broader efforts to simplify baby shopping and respond to parents’ demand for specific brands.

“Guests trust Target to be there for them during life’s biggest milestones,” Amanada Nush, Target’s senior vice president of essentials and beauty merchandising, said in a statement. “We focus on providing products that busy families love, at prices they expect, and we combine expert guidance with fun, easy-to-shop spaces to make preparing for a newborn feel special and practical.”

What is Target Baby Boutique?

Baby Boutique offers a curated selection of premium baby brands including UPPAbaby, Bugaboo, Stokke and Doona. Nearly 2,000 new items from brands such as Wildbird, Nemah and Toddlerkind have been added to the retailer, including some for the first time.

Strollers and child seats are displayed side by side, making it easier to compare and consider. The Baby Boutique experience is designed to simplify the shopping process for parents, who often spend three times more time researching baby products than any other retail category, according to the announcement.

The boutique setup is designed to resemble a baby specialty store, featuring more interactive displays and a carefully selected selection of products.

In addition to baby boutiques, Target is introducing seasonal “Discover” destinations in 1,000 stores to help shoppers find baby gifts and birthday gifts.

Target adds free baby concierge service

Target is also piloting a free “Baby Concierge” service that provides parents with one-on-one expert guidance when selecting products.

Starting in March, shoppers will be able to book in-person appointments at Baby Boutique stores. Virtual consultations are already available.

How many Target stores are there in the US?

According to Target’s website, there are currently 1,989 Target stores nationwide.
