A satirical post from Tampa International Airport has reignited the travel fashion debate over pajamas and “respectful attire.”
USA TODAY readers react to DOT’s new civility campaign
The Department of Transportation’s campaign, “The Golden Age of Flying Starts with You,” received a huge response from USA TODAY readers.
Flying can be tiring, but it doesn’t seem as tiring as seeing passengers in pajamas, at least according to one airport.
“We’ve seen enough. It’s time to ban pajamas at Tampa International Airport,” TPA wrote on Feb. 26 on X, boasting about previously banning Crocs and calling daytime pajama-wearing a “crisis.”
The post was a joke, the airport told USA TODAY: “At Tampa International Airport, we regularly share hilarious and satirical social media content as part of our ongoing efforts to engage with our followers. Today’s post about the pajama ‘ban’ was another playful nod to the travel-day fashion discussion. We encourage our passengers to travel comfortably and appreciate our loyal followers who enjoy our online humor.”
Traveler attire has been a hot topic since the Department for Transport launched its new “Golden Age of Travel” campaign last fall.
The DOT lists “respectful attire,” among other suggestions. In a video shared by CNN, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy elaborated: “I would encourage people to dress a little better. That might encourage us to behave a little better. Let’s not come to the airport wearing slippers or pajamas.”
