The “Americana” film stars Sydney Sweeney as an aspiring country singer
Sidney Sweeney leads the cast of the crime thriller “Americana” along with Halsey, Paul Walter Hauser, Eric Dane and Simon Rex.
Sidney Sweeney returned to Instagram this week (in denim), but she didn’t speak to the controversial American Eagle ads.
The 27-year-old “Euphoria” star went to social media platforms on August 13th to promote the 2023 film “Americana.”
Sweeney – playing aspiring country singer Penny Joe Poplin on a flick – “A few years ago, I filmed this little film with a friend.
She then posted a photo carousel on August 15th on the release date of the film, posing in blue denim jeans and a white top, looking at her personal life behind the scenes.
“Duval’s Diary,” she captioned a post that looked like a nod to Duval County, Florida. Sweeney owns a state home.
The image shows Sweeney posing with a group of men and an assorted alcohol shot, another group of women, preparing to sing karaoke with her friends.
The Hollywood star remains a mother in the backlash of the ads and avoids official statements to the press and her fans about the incident. On August 1st, American Eagle doubled its ads after several days of discourse about the ad campaign in an Instagram post.
“‘Sidney Sweeney has great jeans'” has been about jeans up until now. Her jeans. Her story. We will continue to celebrate the way everyone wears AE jeans with confidence,” the statement read. “Amazing jeans look good on everyone.”
USA Today contacted Sweeney’s representative for comment.
The marketing campaign has been controversial after social media users alleged that the phrase “great genes” was a repetition of the eugenic idea by the blonde blue-eyed star.
In one of the several videos in the campaign, Sweeney, dressed in a denim-on-denim fit, dabbled in several words and told the camera:
“My jeans are blue,” Sweeney said in the video. The Fall 2025 Denim Campaign ends each promotional video with the catchphrase “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”
