As a businessman, Sidney Sweeney is not afraid to push an envelope, even if the fan emails don’t always shine.

The Emmy-nominated actress, who has been involved in controversy with her provocative campaign ads, was opened in an interview with the Wall Street Journal published on August 20th about the backlash she received for the bath water scented soap.

Sweeney, who teamed up with a male hygiene brand in 2024 to suggest a body wash commercial, continued her collaboration with Sydney Bathwater Bliss in May.

“When fans start asking for a bath, they can either ignore it or turn it into a Dr. Squatchthorpe bar,” Sweeney said in a press release at the time. “It’s odd in the best way and we love that we’ve created something that’s not only unforgettable, but something that actually smells incredible.”

SOAP’s sensual marketing theme sparked a mixed reaction on social media, with some users calling it a “gimmick” and questioning the cleanliness of the items.

“It was mainly a girl commenting on it, and I thought it was really funny,” Sweeney recalled in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “They all loved Jacob Elordi’s bathwater idea.”

Sweeney’s “Euphoria” co-star Jacobu Elordi, who also appeared in the 2023 dark comedy Saltburn, achieved quirky sex symbol status after a scene from the film was drinking a bath filled with Eurordi’s bodied fluids.

The actors were not involved in the production or sale of the products, but the risqué sequences also influenced the creation of eroludibas water-scented candles.

Why Sydney Sweeney pays attention to controversial campaigns

Sweeney’s bath water soap isn’t just her business move with her eyebrows raised.

In July, the “Anything You” star became the face of Denim Retailer American Eagle’s latest campaign, featuring biology-inspired wordplay that praises Sweeney’s “Great Jeans.”

The campaign quickly ignited a cultural firestorm, as it accused Sweeney and the American Eagle of subtle gracefully endorsed. Even President Donald Trump defended the actress’s “hot” ads and placed emphasis on service scandals.

Sweeney has not commented on the backlash yet, but American Eagle defended the campaign in an August 1 statement. “Sydney Sweeney has some amazing jeans.”

Sweeney doesn’t have any controversy in her mind, but she told the Wall Street Journal that she keeps a tab at the brand’s public reception.

“I think it’s important to put your fingers in the pulsation of what people are saying,” Sweeney said. “It’s all about conversations with the audience.”
