  • Summer heat can have a negative impact on your car’s batteries and paint.
  • Drivers should use products and accessories to protect their car from the sun.
  • It is essential to check the liquid regularly.

Winter can be rough in your car, but summer can be just as bad.

If you are in an area where there is even extreme or moderate heat during the summer, you need to keep yourself and your car cool. It means taking care of the battery, keeping the vehicle full of liquid and covering the windshield. All three actions can help your car survive the sun. It also helps to hold some unexpected items in your car.

A summer car maintenance checklist to help you get through the season.

Protects the battery

When the car is outside, the components under the hood can get hot, including the battery. This can cause the electrolyte to evaporate inside, causing corrosion, which can weaken. Try parking in the shade or in the garage to limit your fever. This does not guarantee that it will remain intact due to high temperatures, but it is the beginning.

If you live in an area that burns hot summers, you should consider getting an AGM (absorbing glass mat) battery. They are tightly sealed so that the liquid inside does not evaporate and lasts longer than traditional flooded batteries. If you are planning to park your car for a long period of time, consider using battery bids to keep charging when not in use. AGM batteries can be purchased at auto parts stores such as Walmart and Home Depot and at most retailers, but bids are around $50.

Check and refill the liquid

Summer heat can affect the liquids in the car, which can reduce overall effectiveness. At high temperatures, engine oil deteriorates faster, and the lack of lubrication can harm engine components if more oil is not added. Also, more must be added to ensure that the permeate and coolant can lose viscosity.

Get the sunshade fitted to your car

On a hot summer day, you may notice some parked cars with aluminum foil covers pressed against the windshield. These are called sunshades and are intended to prevent ultraviolet rays and heat from overloading the interior of the vehicle. It also allows you to store the interior from excessive sunlight. This can cause wrinkles and cracks in your seat or dashboard.

Before purchasing shade, make sure the dimensions are compatible with your car.

Window tint

Another great way to limit the sun in your car is to use window tints. Colored windows keep your interior cool while limiting the amount of light passing through them and offering the added benefits of privacy.

Some areas may have window tint restrictions, so make sure you are familiar with the state tint laws first before making a decision.

Wash and dry your car frequently

It is recommended to wash your car every week during the summer. That’s because summer heat can harm the paint if your car is exposed to excessive sun. Pollen, dead insects, bird droppings, and tree sap can also be a nuisance.

Regular cleaning will prevent these contaminants from building up painting work over time and damaging them. However, when washing your car, make sure it is properly dried. The best way to wash your car with an air dryer is to wash it. You should also use a microfiber towel to remove any remaining water. This prevents water spots from forming and causing damage.

Store your gear for the rain

It’s best to stay away from the sun, but it’s equally important to leave it dry during summer rains.

If you have finished your ride during a drizzle or pouring rain, this is useful if you have an umbrella and a rain poncho on hand. Make sure the windshield wipers are functioning properly and note that they need to be replaced for a fresh pair.

The seasons change and car maintenance changes. Most people take extra precautions before driving in the winter, but they are important all year round. Check your liquids frequently to keep things clean. If you do that, go.
