Recap for ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5
Check out ‘Stranger Things’ ahead of Season 5 with details on key plot developments and epic showdowns
After a brief stint on the Upside Down due to some technical issues, Netflix’s Stranger Things Season 5 is officially released.
With the first four episodes premiering on Thanksgiving night, the cast is naturally reminiscing about what the beginning of the end of Stranger Things means to them. “This show has given me so much,” Millie Bobby Brown, who was just 11 years old when the show’s first season began filming, said on social media Wednesday.
Most importantly, Brown wrote, the show gave her “the most meaningful story to tell, Else.” The actress shared two photos of herself from earlier seasons of the show, and two more recent photos with Stranger Things creators, twins Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, also known as the Duffer brothers.
“Enjoy Volume 1, everyone,” wrote Stranger Things 5’s Millie Bobby Brown.
“Thank you duffers for giving you a chance at everything you never should have wanted. A British girl with a big family, lots of energy, a strong point of view, and a heart to work tirelessly for the character you’ve built,” she wrote in the caption.
“I hope everyone enjoys Volume 1,” she concluded. “Meet me on the right 🆘”
“Stranger Things” The Undiscovered World also features core cast Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Noah Schnapp (Will Bayers), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers), Natalie Dyer (Nancy Wheeler), David Harbor (Jim Hopper), and Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers).
As of Wednesday night, Woflhardt, Schnapp, McLaughlin and Matarazzo had not yet posted on social media about the end of the series.
Netflix encounters technical issues during release of ‘Stranger Things 5’
According to Variety , Netflix briefly crashed for about three minutes on Wednesday at 5pm PT/8pm ET, just as the fifth season of “Stranger Things” premiered on the streaming platform.
According to Variety, tens of thousands of people who logged onto Netflix to watch the first volume of the sci-fi series saw images of “Nailed It!” It has a caption that says, “Something went wrong. We’re sorry, but there’s a problem with your request. There’s a lot to explore on the home page.”
Millie Bobby Brown addresses David Harbour’s bullying allegations
The final season of Stranger Things and its press tour were nearly mired in controversy when reports surfaced in the Daily Mail on November 1 that Brown allegedly made harassment and bullying allegations against her on-screen father, Harbour, before filming began.
But at the Los Angeles premiere on Nov. 6, the on-screen daughter and father duo showed nothing but admiration for each other as cellphones and cameras measured their every move.
The Duffer brothers also addressed the matter in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that night, with Matt saying, “Obviously we don’t go into personal matters on set.” Now, the outlet reports that a few days after the premiere, they spoke with Brown and asked him why it was important for them to stand together amidst the rumored accusations.
“We’ve been doing that for the last 10 years,” Brown said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “So we’ve always been united in that. We love this show in everything we do, and we value our friendships more than anything.”
Brown also told the outlet that it was “lovely” and “really exciting” to be working with Harbor in the final season of Stranger Things.
“It was very nostalgic because it reminded me so much of Seasons 2 and 3, where we were kind of at odds with each other and she was growing up and she was trying to find her voice and he was trying to parent. And that dynamic is definitely coming back and I’m really excited for people to see that,” the actress said.
Netflix CEO reacts to ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5 premiere
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos released a lengthy statement on Instagram on Wednesday, November 26th, to mark the premiere of the final season of Stranger Things.
“From the moment Matt and Ross Duffer entered Netflix with Shawn Levy to pitch the show, we knew we were going to make history together. We weren’t sure that would happen with this show. It was still taking shape, but they had something special,” Sarandos said of his first meeting with the Duffer brothers.
“The launch of Stranger Things established the Duffer Brothers as world-class creators and Netflix as a destination for event entertainment, and 10 years and five seasons later, history is still being made,” he continued.
Sarandos reflected on the impact Stranger Things has had on pop culture and the broader cultural landscape. The show has also spawned “toys, games, experiences, clothing, award-winning best-selling music, animated spin-offs, a Broadway show, and eventually a spin-off series,” he wrote.
Sarandos concluded, “Thank you to the entire cast and crew for bringing fans to Hawkins and the Upside Down and changing television forever.”
