Stellantis: Key brands, global expansion and challenges for automakers

Jeff Comer, head of U.S. retail sales, said in a news release that the sequential increase in quarterly sales (up 4% in the fourth quarter compared to a year ago) “clearly shows we are taking the appropriate steps to reset our U.S. business.”
How did each brand perform?
Jeep and Chrysler were the only two Stellantis brands to increase sales in 2025, with both companies posting modest sales increases of 1% year-over-year.
Ram sales were down 2% compared to 2024 despite a new lineup with revived HEMI engines.
Dodge is still feeling the effects of discontinuing its popular previous-generation muscle cars, the Charger and Challenger, with sales down 28% from a year ago. However, the Dodge Durango recorded a 37% sales increase in 2025 and a 114% surge in the fourth quarter. This result, Stellantis says, is the best since 2005. Stellantis has indicated that it will renew the Durango in 2027.
Stellantis’ Fiat car sales were 1,321 units, down 14% compared to 2024, and Alfa Romeo sales were down 36% in 2025.
Following a 15% year-over-year decline in sales in 2024, there will be a 3% overall decline in 2025.
A year of change at Stellantis
2025 was a year of change for Stellantis, with a new CEO in the middle of the year and a flurry of tariffs and regulatory changes to the auto industry coming out of Washington, DC.
The company spent much of a year reversing the decision of former CEO Carlos Tavares to step down at the end of 2024, as insiders ranging from dealers to unions in general were angry with him and dissatisfied with his leadership.
In June, Antonio Filosa was appointed CEO of the international automaker. Filosa previously headed up Stellantis’ most profitable brand, Jeep.
Under Filosa, the brand made a series of significant changes to its product lineup and sales strategy, and the brand posted sales growth under his leadership in the first two quarters he was in charge.
Since Mr. Filosa took over, the Stellantis brand has introduced several new products and reversed decisions made under previous leadership. The brand has also been freed from regulatory hurdles as President Donald Trump has sought to deregulate the auto industry.
During 2025, Ram Trucks brought back the HEMI engine, brought back the Hellcat-powered TRX truck, canceled the Ram 1500 REV electric pickup truck, and renamed the upcoming extended range truck. Dodge delayed production of a lower-speed version of its electric Dodge Charger and introduced a gasoline-powered Charger Six-Pack with a turbocharged six-cylinder Hurricane engine that won several Vehicle of the Year awards. Jeep brought back the Cherokee, debuted the Recon EV, refreshed the Grand Cherokee and Grand Wagoneer, and debuted a brand new internal combustion engine for future vehicles.
The company also announced a historic $13 billion investment in Midwest manufacturing plants in October. The investment will be used to bring several new cars to market and fund thousands of new jobs.
As federal incentives for electrification disappeared under the Trump administration, Stellantis slowly phased out electric vehicles by 2025. The company’s competitors, Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Co., also made costly shifts away from electrification this year.
