State-led land auction set starting in Michigan: What you can buy

Have you ever wanted to own an island or waterfront facility? Well, soon, you could just do it in this Great Lakes state.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says hundreds of land are sold in a series of auctions, ranging from an island of more than acres to a small area of hundreds of acres of land. The auction is hosted by the department every year, local news station FOX 2 Detroit reported.

“We have evaluated all other options, whether it is a better land exchange or not, before the plot reaches public auctions – the management tools the department has been using for decades.

The auction is on the Stigger Schedule for bidding.

What type of land is available?

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has a list of locations that can be auctioned. The full list is here, but here are some of the highlights.

Remote Lakefront Properties

Lot #10050: This distant property, this approximately two acres of land is located on the shore of Lake Duck in Gogebic County, part of the state’s upper peninsula. According to the property list, the parcel contains approximately 100 feet of the lake. This remote getaway bid begins $15,000.

The 80 acre plot meets the zoning requirements to build

Lot #10099If you are considering building, this property meets zoning requirements is more suitable than other partitions for grabs. The bid starts with 80 acres in Oceana County $180,000.

Mini Islands start at $3,750

Lot #10049: The plot of this property, less than an acre in size, is in the middle of a lake about 3.5 miles northwest of Fenton, Michigan. For future buyers, the land is too small to legally construct, but bids begin with $3,750.

RiverFront Parcel listed for $55,000

Lot #10076: A plot size of over 14 acres, this lot is located near the Thunder Bay River, and you’ll get riverfront properties. The property’s bid in Montmorency County, northeastern Michigan, is $55,000.

700-foot Lakefront Properties

Lot #10080Bids for this parcel along John Ford Lake in Newaygo County begin at $42,000. The Michigan DNR says about 10 of the facility’s 18 acres are below the lake and there are no legal access roads.

When are Michigan land auctions open?

The first auction is expected to begin on August 1, with lands in Kent and Oceana counties beginning bidding, according to the state’s DNR. This is the dates for all auctions:

  • Friday, August 1st – Kent and Oceana County
  • Monday, August 4th – Grand Traverse, Lake, Manisty, Wexford County
  • Thursday, August 7th – Lapier County
  • Monday, August 18th – Alger, Ruth, Schoolcraft County
  • Tuesday, August 19th – Gogebic and Marquette County
  • Thursday, August 21st – Washtenau County
  • Friday, August 22nd – Mecosta, Midland, Newaygo County
  • Tuesday, August 26th – Barry County
  • Wednesday, August 27th – Allegan County
  • Thursday, August 28th – Ogemaw, Missaukee, Montmorency County
  • Friday, September 5th – Genesee County
