A dominant first half from Carson Beck, Akhim Mesidor, Ruben Bain Jr. and Co. led No. 10 Miami Football to defeat No. 2 seed Ohio State 24-14 in the CFP Cotton Bowl quarterfinals at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Wednesday, Dec. 31, for the second upset of the postseason.
With Ohio State’s loss, the team that received a first-round bye is now 0-5 in two rounds of the 12-team playoff, with three more games to be played on January 1st.
After Ohio State made it a one-possession game with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Julian Sane to Jeremiah Smith in the third quarter, the Hurricanes clinched a spot in the CFP semifinals with a defensive stop, Chalmer Brown’s 5-yard rushing touchdown and Jacoby Thomas interception in the final six minutes of the fourth quarter.
Considering the Hurricanes’ overall performance and the defending national champions being eliminated after just one game, college football social media did not hold back in reacting to the outcome of the CFP Cotton Bowl quarterfinals.
