“Saturday Night Live” faked the 2025 election, government shutdown and more as the weather got colder.

The sketch show began its Nov. 8 episode with an Oval Office sketch parodying a recent White House event announcing price cuts for weight loss drugs, but was canceled after a pharmaceutical company representative passed out.

In the sketch, James Austin Johnson’s President Donald Trump said he had a “pretty normal” reaction to the fallen man, saying he “just stands there and stares like a sociopath.”

“I like to create a big visual that sums up how things are going each week,” he said. “Last week was the demolition of the East Tower. This week in my Oval Office, the mere thought of lowering drug rates nearly killed a medical professional. Maybe next week a bald eagle will fall from the sky and splatter on the White House lawn. And by lawn, I mean, of course, the big concrete floor outside.”

“A man collapses in the Oval Office,” he added. “Who would have guessed it wasn’t me?”

Johnson’s Trump then touched on a number of other topics in a rambling monologue, with others focusing on the man behind him. He shared his reaction to the Democratic Party’s landslide victory in Tuesday’s election, saying that while the media called the result a “condemnation” of his policies, “No kidding. These are Stephen Miller’s policies. I don’t read that stuff.”

Johnson’s Trump also discussed soaring food prices and government-mandated flight cancellations as the government shutdown continues, declaring, “We promised that food prices would plummet, and they did. They plummeted all at once. People are saying, ‘But how are we going to feed our families that Thanksgiving turkey?'” Well, the good news is that your family won’t be coming because all the planes are gone. ”

The monologue ended with President Trump promising to “prolong” the government shutdown and saying, “While we’re at it, we’re probably considering stealing Christmas. Play the Grinch!”

The pharmaceutical company representative’s Oval Office meltdown was also brought up on “Weekend Update” later in the show, with host Colin Jost joking, “Whatever President Trump has to say, I want it too. Because look how calm he is in the middle of all this. He’s just standing there!”

Nikki Glazer made her “SNL” hosting debut on Nov. 8, capping off a big year for the comedian, who hosted the Golden Globe Awards in January. She will return to host the Globes in 2026 and is also known for her appearances on Comedy Central’s Roast. In a provocative monologue, Mr. Glazer joked that New York City was “Mr. Epstein’s original island,” mocked Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and quipped, “I’m no health expert, but neither is he.”

Last week’s “SNL,” hosted by Miles Teller, opened with a parody of the New York mayoral election, starring Teller as Andrew Cuomo, Ramy Youssef as Zoran Mandani, and Shane Gillis as Curtis Sliwa. “I know this city like the backs of women,” Teller said, echoing former New York Gov. Cuomo, who resigned in 2021 amid a sexual harassment scandal.

As Mamdani said in his sketch, he wanted to provide New Yorkers with free health care, Wi-Fi, and affordable housing. “Will I be able to do that as mayor? I don’t know yet.” “But together we are going to know that the answer is no.”

A few days later, Mamdani was elected New York City’s next mayor.

“SNL” is five episodes into its 51st season, which began in October after several cast members left the show during its annual summer hiatus.

After late-night host Jimmy Kimmel’s controversial suspension, some viewers feared retribution from the Federal Communications Commission and expressed concern that the show would go easy on Trump, but “SNL” remains as political as ever, continuing to regularly mock the president with impersonations of Johnson.

Who will be the next “SNL” host?

“SNL” returns next week with a new episode hosted by “Running Man” star Glen Powell. Actor Olivia Dean will make her debut as a host on SNL, appearing as a musical guest.

The host for the final segment of the 2025 “SNL” episode has not yet been announced.
