SNL is 50! The way Lorne Michaels made the comedy cool again.
In decades since its inception, SNL has become a cultural institution of American comedy.
Lorne Michaels promises a major change in the Saturday Night Live lineup.
The show’s co-founder and longtime producer said in a recent interview with Pack News that he is ready to rock the team of laughing sketch comics with delicious times on NBC’s weekend broadcast after wanting to stabilize the 50th anniversary celebration of “SNL.”
“There was no such confusion, or focus stolen (season 50), and we voted,” 80-year-old Michaels said of the decision to curb major casting changes.
He added that once the show enters a century’s air in half of its climb, he feels pressured to reinvent it.
“It’s going to be announced in about a week,” Michaels said of the casting news. The interview was published on August 22nd.
James Austin Johnson will continue to maintain his role as President Donald Trump, he confirmed. Johnson has played Trump for several years following the much talked-about portrayal by Alec Baldwin in the 2016 presidential campaign against then-candidate Hillary Clinton.
According to the outlet, several current cast members are expected to be left, and auditions were held earlier this month.
Famously known as the final boss of a critical decision on the broadcast, Michaels says he’s brought several more people in the process in recent years.
“More people are involved in the choices and decisions,” he told the outlet. “There are a lot of people in that room who have a lot of opinions. Obviously, I make the final decision. But it’s not like people don’t let me know how strongly they feel.”
And when it comes to artificial intelligence looming as a potential job snatcher for many in the entertainment world, Michaels said he’s not sweating.
“I’m not worried about AI (show night) because I can’t guess what AI will do between 10 and 11,” he joked.
