UV nail polish dryer linked to cancer-causing cell mutations
When getting a manicure, most people are most concerned about what color nail polish to choose, not what type of hair dryer to use…

Women don’t have time for manicure.
At least, that’s what hundreds of women wrote in response to a viral post on Threads.
“Girls who don’t get manicures or pedicures…why??” The original post from January 5th by a user named Jenny reads: It has been viewed 5.5 million times and has over 33,000 comments.
“Jenny because I’m a hell of a surgeon,” one commenter wrote, along with a photo of her in scrubs and a surgical mask. “I’m tired, Jenny,” wrote another, along with a photo of her holding two toddlers. “Because I’m an archaeologist, Jenny,” another person replied, along with a photo of her work site.
Survey data shows that mothers in particular are feeling overwhelmed by the mental strain of juggling motherhood and their careers. A recent USA TODAY/Peacock survey of 1,600 U.S. parents found that about one-third of women feel overwhelmed every day, and 43% of women say they feel burnt out or emotionally exhausted.
It’s not just that women are skipping manicure and hair appointments. A 2023 Ipsos survey of more than 3,200 women found that nearly half of American women do not receive preventive health services such as checkups, tests, and vaccines. Respondents said they skipped these services due to affordability and lack of time.
In the thread, other women took to the comments section to explain how work, hobbies, and taking care of their families took precedence over cosmetic self-care such as manicures, pedicures, facials, and hair treatments.
Women posted photos of themselves working jobs that don’t lend themselves to long fingernails, such as boxing or mail delivery. Some women said they needed to keep their nails short for rock climbing, hiking, gardening, crocheting, and pottery making.
One user commented: “As someone with long nails, I love all the comments from women who are against long nails and describe their great jobs and hobbies.”
One commenter listed 13 reasons why women don’t want manicured nails, including playing a musical instrument, the cost of going to a nail salon, allergies to certain products, not having enough time, and “not wanting to poke a baby.”
Another woman simply wrote, “Jenny, because I want to spend money on travel.”
