Something I didn’t see at the 77th Emmy Awards on September 14th.
LOS ANGELES – Seth Rogen’s Apple TV+ Comedy Series “Studio” won 13 Emmy Awards, including the Best Comedy Series, and set a record at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards. On the drama side, “er” star Noah Weil ultimately won the first Emmy Award for the HBO medical series “The Pitt.”
However, the standout emotional moment inside the Peacock Theatre on September 14 came when Stephen Colbert won the best talk series Emmy in “Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” When Colbert recommended staff on stage and heard the chant “Stephen, Stephen,” the spontaneous explosion of applause was pure bedram.
Behind the scenes, Colbert stood with a passionate aide of 20 writers and worked on the fuss.
“It was really satisfying. I’m very grateful,” Colbert said when USA Today was asked about the enthusiastic reception. “I know it wasn’t just me. It was for all these people that really made it possible to do the job.”
Here’s what I didn’t see on TV at the Emmy Awards on Sunday:
Seth Rogen is struggling to hold four Emmy trophies
After Seth Rogen won three Emmy Awards for “Studio,” the actor embraced a heartfelt embrace from his co-stars and frequent collaborator Aike Barinholtz in the audience during a commercial break.
“Congratulations and congratulations,” said Barinholtz with a laugh. “So another big victory?”
Rogen did not respond to comments worthy of jinx. But certainly, executive producer Rogen won his fourth and biggest Emmy in the “Studio” best comedy series.
Behind the scenes, Rogen was able to carry all four trophies to the podium. But he had to kneel to slowly put the bulky Emmy down before he could ask a question.
“We’ll probably put it in the bedroom on the bed,” Rogen said.
Standing by his side, Barinholz had other ideas: “He turns one of them into a bong.”
Sarawell’s Mad Emis Dash celebrates to celebrate with “Pitt” husband Noah Weil
In his first Emmy speech that was perfect for his pitch, Noah Weil said, “Not only because it’s California law, but because she got it.
The TV cameras flashed to his wife, Sara Wells, who had been in over 11 years. However, the camera did not show Wells’ crazy dash from her auditorium seat to join her husband behind the scenes during the commercial break.
Wells sprinted the long road around the auditorium and through the crowded lobby, slamming the escort’s arms for balance, despite her unstable heels being occupied by the stride-limited hem of her ball gown. Despite the distance, she never lost her whimsical smile.
Behind the scenes, Weil was credited with the real hero of “Pitt.” First responder.
“That was the audience we made the show and the first audience that overwhelmingly responded,” Weil said. “It was their review that gave them that seal of approval.”
Emmy Stars pays $16.25 for Bad Light Seltzer Flavor Blast
Certainly there was a VIP area with complimentary drinks and food. However, many stars did not mind throwing them away to celebrate with guests at Peacock Theatre. “Hacking” actor Mark Indelicart grabbed a Bad Light Seltzer Flavor Blast ($16.25) in the lobby and took a selfie with his fans. “White Lotus” star Amy Lowood was happy to accept the nasty gin drink from her peers ($17.50).
Emmy presenter, “Showgan,” starring Anna Sawai and Sanada Islands, enjoyed a drink that included GH Mumm Rosé. Sanada handed her credit cards to handle the group. So, Lord Yoshi Toranaga.
John Oliver shouts Adam Driver’s “Majestic peck”
John Oliver’s praise for Adam Driver was behind the scenes despite the “Gucci House” actor being absent from the ceremony.
As part of the longtime “Last Week Tonight” bit, the talk show hosts have brought an obsession with the driver. Naturally, Oliver was asked what he imagined the driver would say about his 22nd and 23rd Emmy victory.
“I’m struggling and I’m arresting you from the tuxedo,” Oliver said. “So, if I can’t stay with this… I don’t know how his majestic peck Adam Driver wears a shirt.”
Selena Gomez’s date night with Benny Blanco, Steve Martin, Martin Short
The night of Selena Gomez’s date with his fiancee Benny Blanco was perfect, especially as the couple sat next to Gomez’s “the only murder of the building” Steve Martin and Martin Short.
The PDA-loving couple had time to whisper to each other, with Gomez completely resting their left arm around the swing (while showing off the sparkle of diamonds in their right hand). Gomez was her seatmate, still on the right, and frequently had stupidity along with the short Martin. When “Saturday Night Live” Lorne Michaels accepted “SNL50” Emmy, Gomez led the standing ovation, and Martin cracked the group by grabbing his mouth to make a fake cat call towards the stage. When champagne arrived in a plastic cup for short, the actor pronounced “Shalom Aleichem” (“Your Peace”) as grossy.
Jean Smart and Sterling K. Brown’s injuries report
Jean Smart was located behind the scenes when she was announced in her seventh career Emmy Awards victory and fourth in HBO’s “Hacking.” Smart had to be nearby due to a knee injury.
“If I was walking like John Wayne, that’s because I’d broken my knee this summer and it’s not completely repaired,” Smart said he accepted the award before climbing behind the scenes with presenter Jennifer Coolidge.
“Paradise” star Sterling K. Brown then ran to the stage on a knee scooter, introducing Emmy, and served as the finest director alongside co-stars Julian Nicholson and James Marsden. Due to Achilles Heel’s injuries, Brown sat in the front row on crutches, his injured leg extending into the aisle.
“White Lotus” casts are everywhere
The star who just married, Patrick Schwarzenegger, was not there, but the “White Lotus” cast was everywhere.
Natasha Rothwell flocked to the auditorium as her co-star Dom Hetrakle literally carried a train in her gown and limited the number of people stepping on it.
Parker Posey agreed to all the selfie requests before stepping inside, and Leslie Bibb led her husband Sam Rockwell in sunglasses with her hand. While in different seating sections, the groups interacted to the end. The HBO Show went home empty-handedly past the Emmys, but star Larisa Manovan happily carried her own pink gown train and finished the night towards the car pickup.
