Searching for Texas flood victims will allow you to “get strong” for another month or two

The latest flash floods had retreated in central Texas early Monday, but forecasts for the storm later that day could result in more wounds in areas blamed for floods that have killed at least 132 people.

The National Weather Service warned that thunderstorms were projected on Monday and Tuesday, creating “excessive rainfall and potential flooding.” Flood clocks were in effect in more than a dozen counties. Among them is Carr County, where more than 100 people died when the Guadalupe River struck a bank on July 4th.

The sequester amount of 7 to 9 inches of rainfall is 2 to 5 inches, the Meteorological Bureau said. The flood clock was valid until 9pm

The storm that swept the area on Sunday prompted dozens of high water rescues in the Lampasus area, about 100 miles northeast of Kerrville. Flash flooding delayed search, rescue and recovery efforts in Kerr County.

Leesa said more than 2,000 people from multiple agencies were supporting the effort, and Governor Greg Abbott and President Donald Trump were guaranteed to provide all the necessary resources.

“How long does it take? Who knows? I think we’ll be stronger for another month or two. “We continue to have the resources and assets we need. And we’ll keep watching.”

A court for the Kerr County Commission had held its first second meeting on Monday since the floods destroyed the county 10 days ago. Local officials are being scrutinized for not installing flood warning sirens along the Guadalupe River. Carr County Judge Rob Kelly said last week that county officials considered the siren several years ago but dismissed the idea because “the public was caught up at the expense of it.”

At the meeting, Kelly asked the residents to hold back.

“We are moving towards search and rescue eyes, and search and rescue continues to be our number one priority,” he said. “It also includes recovery. As we move forward, hold on.”

The city of San Saba, about 100 miles north of Carville in San Saba County, urged residents near the river to be prepared for the water to rise. County Judge Jody Foley issued mandatory evacuations to parts of the city, noting that “the river is rising faster than July 4th.” Some roads will not be reopened until at least Tuesday, he said.

“Obviously, none of us expected to have two 70-year floods within a week of each other,” Fauley said in a video posted to social media. “Yeah, be careful about everything.”

The San Antonio Weather Services Office said early Monday that “dangerous situations” occurred in parts of Uvalde, Real, Bandera and Kerr counties, with 2-5 inches of rain falling within four hours.

“More heavy rain is ongoing. The floods are already happening,” Weather Services said on social media.

The flood warning was valid for the Guadalupe River in Hunt, a few miles west of Carville. The river is expected to reach a moderate flood stage around 11am local time, from 8.45 feet to 14.6 feet a few hours ago.

“Suppose for highlands along the riverbank,” Kerrville police warned on social media.

In the early days of July, fragments of the weather system converged to bring devastation to Texas Hill Country, turning the Guadalupe River into a monster that infuriated the banks at the time before dawn on July 4th. At least 129 people have died and at least 160 are listed as missing.

The time leading up to disaster, and the actions taken to protect the lives of those in the wrath of water, are important to understand what happened and whether more could have been done in the name of safety. Through the National Weather Services Messaging Service with Emergency Management Officers and Broadcast Meteorologists, US Geological Survey Data and other records, USA Today has pieced together the timeline of Guadalupe’s disaster.
