In their annual update, police called on anyone with information to come forward, but did not release information about what new evidence had been collected.

Nearly 30 years after JonBenét Ramsey’s mysterious murder, Colorado State Police say her unsolved case remains a top priority.

In its annual report, the Boulder Police Department called on anyone with information about the 1996 murder of a 6-year-old beauty queen in her childhood home to come forward. Ramsey’s murder has captivated audiences around the world for decades.

Police Chief Stephen Redfern said detectives conducted several new interviews over the past year based on information received and also collected and reviewed new evidence. No information was released about what new evidence had been collected.

Meanwhile, police re-interviewed people and re-examined other evidence, especially using evolving DNA technology.

“It’s not too late for those who know about this horrific crime to come forward and I encourage those responsible for this murder to contact us,” Mr Redfern said in a pre-recorded video on December 12.

On the morning of December 26, 1996, John and Patsy Ramsey called 911 after finding a ransom note for their missing daughter. Later, John Ramsey found JonBenét Ramsey dead in the basement of his home.

An autopsy revealed the cause of her death was strangulation and that she had been sexually assaulted. Her skull was also fractured. DNA from an unknown person was found under her fingernails and on her underwear.

Patsy Ramsey passed away in 2006, 10 years after her daughter’s death. In 2008, local prosecutors released his family, including his brother, as suspects after DNA testing.

Redfern, who joined the department in 2021 and became chief in 2024, said in the video that he met with JonBenét Ramsey’s family and that they shared the same goal of finding the girl’s killer. Boulder Police are asking anyone with information to contact BouldersMostWanted@bouldercolorado.gov or the police tip line at 303-441-1974.
