Savannah Guthrie’s mother abduction timeline reveals new details

Date:

Investigators on Thursday provided an updated timeline of the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” host Savannah Guthrie.

At a Feb. 5 press conference, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told reporters that doorbell camera footage helped authorities assemble a new sequence of events in Guthrie’s kidnapping. She was first reported missing on Sunday, February 1, after members of a local church called her family and expressed concern that she had not attended church services that morning.

Here’s a closer look at what we know so far. It is always local and approximate.

At 5:32 p.m. on Jan. 31, Guthrie went to his family’s home for game night, authorities said. At 9:48 p.m., when her family dropped her off at her home, the garage door opened. Garage doors closed at 9:50 p.m.

At 1:47 a.m. on February 1, authorities announced that the doorbell camera in front of Guthrie’s home was disconnected. At 2:12 a.m., the smart home’s software detected a person on the camera, but video wasn’t available on Guthrie’s subscription plan.

At 2:28 a.m., Guthrie’s pacemaker app shows it has been disconnected from his phone. Family members arrived to check on her at 11:56 a.m. and called 911 at 12:03 to report her missing. A police car arrived at 12:15 p.m.

When asked if the doorbell camera was kept by police, Nanos said, “We don’t have it. We couldn’t find it,” suggesting it may have been taken from the scene.

Nanos said it tried working with technology companies to recover the video, but was unsuccessful.

“We know that the technology company has run out of ways to restore that video,” he said.

“At this point, we believe Nancy is still out there,” Nanos said at the beginning of the news conference, adding that several nearby police departments and FBI agents are providing services. “We want to bring her home. Our department, the sheriff’s department… is working around the clock.”
