USA Today Sports ‘Chris Bumbaca explains how the Ryder Cup scores work for the Bethpage Golf Colse.
Team Europe was successfully established to close the 2025 Ryder Cup and win back-to-back events on Sunday.
Europe has taken a 12-5 lead after two days of action against the US. Teams only need three of the 12 points possible on the final day to secure a victory.
Tommy Fleetwood plays a key role in Europe’s success, nearly outperforming America in four points.
USA Today Sports will have full coverage of the 2025 Ryder Cup, so be sure to check out live updates.

Bryson DeDanbaugh makes a birdie on the 8th hole, urging the crowd to erupt with cheers, while Fitzpatrick misses a putt that cuts his lead to a 3-up.

Scottie Scheffler nails a par putt on the fourth hole to cut Rory McIlroy’s lead after McIlroy misses 10 footer.

Team Europe’s Viktor Hovland will not be taking part in Sunday’s Ryder Cup Singles match as a neck injury led him to retreat. Hovland had to sit for a four-ball session on Saturday to get an MRI. His teammate Tyrrell Hutton stepped in on Matt Fitzpatrick and teamed up to win their match.
Each team receives half the points as a result of Hovland withdrawing from a singles match against Harris English on Sunday. The current leaderboard shows 12 points for Europe and 5 points for the US.
In a surprising event, the PGA of America reported that the master of the Ryder Cup ritual had resigned after leading an inappropriate chant towards Rory McIlroy on Saturday.
On Sunday, the PGA issued a statement announcing comedian and actress Heather McMahan will not host their first tee on her final day at Bethpage Black. This decision follows her involvement in directing the crowd to participate in a lethal hymn directed at McIlroy.
The atmosphere at the Ryder Cup is wild, with the crowd doing everything they can to deflect the European team. Team Europe is leading 11.5 to Team USA’s 4.5 as singles matches are set to tee off in a few hours.

The 2025 Ryder Cup brings the US and Europe’s leading teams to the famous Black Course in Bethpage State Park.
Bethpage Black is located in Farmingdale, New York, about an hour’s east of Manhattan. Long Island Golf Course has held several major events in recent years, including the 2002 and 2009 US Open and the 2019 PGA Championship. The PAR-71 course is considered a major test for even the best professional golfers, but the location near New York City offers easy access to large, noisy crowds.
The venue was chosen for the entire year in 2013, but Bethpage Black was originally scheduled to hold the 2024 Ryder Cup. However, the delay caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has pushed the tournament. This, which is played every other year at alternating venues between the US and Europe, brought one of golf’s biggest events to the infamous course in 2025. Jason Anderson

The Rider Cup will be scored in match play. Basically, it doesn’t matter how much stroke you take into each individual hole. The important thing is that you have fewer strokes than your opponent.
Once each round is complete, you will earn points for your team, regardless of which player earns more holes. If both competitors are tied up, each earns half the points of the team.
In total, the glove has 28 points. This means that the first team wins the tournament with 14.5 points. In theory, the tournament could end with a 14-14 tie, but that only happened twice in History (1969, 1989). If it occurs this year, the previous winner will hold the trophy. This will in this case become Europe. – John Heffling

One notable player absent from the US Ryder Cup team this year is the legendary Tiger Woods. The 15-time major champion, even selected as one of the 12 golfers, was not appointed team captain, primarily because he prioritized his health and other duties.
Woods was considered for the Captain, but he declined the opportunity and instead chose to assume additional responsibility as a member of the PGA Tour Policy Board and the board of directors of the PGA Tour Enterprise. However, he made it clear that this does not rule out the possibility of serving as a future team captain. – Elizabeth Flores
For almost a century, golfers were not directly compensated for participation in the Ryder Cup.
In addition to the charitable contributions ($300,000) that the American PGA has made on behalf of 12 American players and captains since 1999, the organization voted in November 2024 to fund a US team’s $200,000 scholarship.
In an interview with Sky Sports on Monday, September 22nd, Europe Captain Luke Donald pointed out that he would never accept the honourable idea like the Ryder Cup, the idea that European players would be paid to play in tournaments.
“Each of them said, ‘This isn’t a week to get paid,'” Donald told SkySports. “We have such a strong purpose for this team and us to play.”

The Ryder Cup is not a showcase for the best golfers in the US and Europe. The lead to the sport’s most prestigious international team event also has the spotlight on his wife and girlfriend.
Yes, the professional golf WAG is part of the 45th edition of the Ryder Cup, fully powered on Tuesday, September 23rd, and is a traditional Ryder Cup welcome dinner before the first tee shot of 2025 hit Friday morning. This year’s Gallafest took place at Hempstead House, a Tudor-style mansion in New York near Beth Page Black Golf Course, and the annual photo featuring the Ryder Cup golfer and his important others has once again turned into a popular story point.

There are not many golf courses that come with warning signs. This is true.
“Warning” reads a red text notification when the player walks to the first tee.
In the 2025 Ryder Cup, the Beth Page Black Course doesn’t live up to its brutal reputation, eliminating golfers at all proficiency levels, from 30 handicaps to experts. Brooks Koepka won his final major here, the 2019 PGA Championship, by filming four over pearls in four days of play. Tiger Woods won his first major at Beth Page, the 2002 US Open, taking three shots ahead of second-place finisher Phil Mickelson.
Chris Bumbaca from USA Today has more on the iconic course.
Both the US and Europe have produced memorable teams in the modern day of the Ryder Cup. Advances the 2025 Ryder Cup, it seemed wise to help the world’s best golfers get into potentially at-risk contexts when they’re tailored to golf’s most prestigious team events.
Here, all the recent Ryder Cup winners are stacked (and yes, as part of a patriotic duty to highlight the most controversial American Ryder Cup comeback, this exercise involves ranking the best Ryder Cup teams since 2000).
