At least four people have been killed and dozens have been injured in the Russian mass attack as Ukraine says more sanctions are needed against Moscow.

Vice President JD Vance says the intense exchange of oval offices with the Ukrainian president revealed tensions in the major US ukraine.
Kiev, Sept. 28 (Reuters) – Russia launched hundreds of drones and missiles in Kiev and other parts of Ukraine early on Sunday, killing at least four people, and wounding dozens since the start of the full war in one of the capital’s most sustained attacks.
Poland closed airspace near two southeastern cities, and its air force was caught in a spurt spurt until the danger was over.
The Ukrainian forces said Russia fired 595 drones and 48 missiles overnight, and its air defense shot down 568 drones and 43 missiles. It noted that the capital Kiev was the main target of the strike.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attack, which lasted more than 12 hours, had damaged heart disease clinics, factories and residential buildings.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said on September 28 it had launched a “large-scale” attack on Ukraine, targeting military infrastructure, including airfields, using long-range air and undersea weapons and drones.
Moscow has denied targeting civilian targets in the war with Ukraine, but thousands have been killed and the attacks have resulted in extensive damage to residential areas.
Zelenskyy inspires international partners to act
Zelenskyy once again urged the international community to take decisive action to cut off Russian energy revenues that fund the invasion. Ukraine has so far failed to convince President Donald Trump to impose punitive sanctions on Moscow.
“The time for decisive action has been delayed for a long time. We expect strong responses from the US, Europe, the G7 and G20,” he said on the Telegram messaging app.
Kyiv exploded loudly, drones flying overhead, and air defense boomed. Smoke from one of the strike sites drifted across the morning sky as the air laid alert ended about seven hours after it ended at 9:13am local time.
Reuters journalists visited a suburb of Kiev, where a line of newly built houses has been almost completely destroyed, and the car parked by fallen debris has been flattened.
Residents sifted through the debris of the apartment after the windows were blown in by the power of the window.
Some people rushed to an underground metro station, from which they followed a mobile phone event.
Ukraine’s defenses were stretched by a massive attack
Attacks on this scale have limited Ukraine’s air defense in 2025. Zelensky said he expected an additional patriot missile system from Israel to be deployed on September 27, with two more people expected to arrive this fall.
He and other officials have asked international partners more to protect Ukraine’s skies, but air defense systems are limited in availability and other countries are keen to strengthen their defense amid threats from Russia.
Zelenskyy said Sunday’s attack targeted several regions, including the city of Zapolijazia in the south, with authorities saying at least 16 people injured.
At least four people have been killed, but local authorities reported 67 people nationwide injured, according to emergency services.
Among the deaths was a 12-year-old girl, which has not been officially confirmed, Timur Tokachenko, head of Kiev’s junta, said on Telegram.
