Russia and Ukraine trade prisoners, Donald Trump says

Date:

May 23 (Reuters) – President Donald Trump said Friday that the exchange of major prisoners between Russia and Ukraine has been completed.

“The exchange of major prisoners between Russia and Ukraine has just been completed. It will come into effect soon. Congratulations to both sides on this negotiation. Could this lead to something big?”

Officials from the Ukrainian Military Intelligence Agency on Thursday submitted a list of 1,000 prisoners to Russia in preparation for a major swap.

The agreement to implement such an exchange reached Istanbul earlier this month, the first in-person meeting between Russia and Ukraine in over three years.
