Former New York mayor, Mayor Rudy Giuliani, had helped a woman involved in a domestic violence incident before the car accident that left him at the hospital, police said.

Giuliani and his driver, Theodore Goodman, were driving on Interstate 93 near Manchester, New Hampshire.

Goodman, Giuliani, and the driver of the other vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a community hospital in an ambulance for treatment, state police said.

Giuliani has been diagnosed with a fractured thoracic vertebrae, compatible with multiple lacerations, and injury to the left arm and lower limb, his security head, Michael Lagusa, said in a post on Aug. 31.

Ragusa said Giuliani and Goodman “support victims of domestic violence” before crashing. Police confirmed the Ragusa report and provided details about the crash in the September 1 update.

Giuliani was released from hospital after a car accident, his son says

Rudy Giuliani’s son Andrew Giuliani said in an interview on WABC’s Cat and Cosby radio show September 1 that his father was released from hospital.

“I’m happy to report he left the hospital today,” Andrew Giuliani said. “Walking, thanking God, breaking his vertebrae, obviously he’s in a lot of pain, but as you all know, few people are as harsh as Rudy Giuliani.”

The New York Times also reported that Giuliani had been released, citing Ragusa and Giuliani’s friend Arthur Adara.

USA Today has contacted Ragusa for more information.

In his first statement, Ragusa said that Giuliani is “well and incredibly recovering.”

“This was not a targeted attack. Please respect Mayor Giuliani’s privacy and recovery and refrain from spreading unfounded conspiracy theories,” Ragusa said in X.

Police confirm Giuliani helped a woman “involved in a domestic violence incident” before crash

Before the accident, former lawyers for President Donald Trump, Giuliani and Goodman, were flagged by a woman on the side of the road who she said she was involved in a domestic violence incident, police confirmed in a September 1 update.

Goodman reported the incident to law enforcement just after 9pm, and he and Giuliani remained on the scene until police arrived. The two men left the scene after informing troopers that they had seen them, state police said.

A Honda HR-V hit the rear of the vehicle minutes after the Ford Bronco carrying Goodman and Giuliani returned to the highway, police said.

The crash occurred “almost directly across from the scene of the reported domestic violence incident.” The police officers who were already at the first scene responded to the crash.

Police believe the driver who attacked Goodman and Giuliani’s vehicle has nothing to do with the domestic violence incident.

Police said the crash remained under investigation, including whether “distraction or curiosity in the first scene” was a factor.
