GE Strike discussed by GE Aerospace Workers in 2025. See the video

More than 600 employees, represented by United Autoworkers at two GE Aerospace Facilities outside Cincinnati, began their strike on Thursday, August 28th, just before the Labor Day weekend.

Who is on a strike?
Hundreds of workers at Ohio manufacturer Evendale manufactures Kentucky distribution facilities supplying the marine and industrial engines of the U.S. Navy and its Erlanger and Kentucky distribution facilities worldwide.
Which unions are involved?
UAW Local 647 has approximately 900 members, representing workers and SVS Vision Optical at Hard Rock Casino in downtown Cincinnati. The locals are part of American Automotive, Aerospace and Agricultural Implementation Workers (UAWs) with over 400,000 active members in North America. They represent workers from universities, hospitals and private nonprofits from manufacturers and state and local governments.
What is GE Aerospace’s business?
The Evendale-based Fortune 500 company manufactures and serves engines for both commercial and military aircraft. There are over 130 manufacturing and service facilities worldwide, half of 22 states and the rest in 24 countries.
How many people work in the company?
The company employs 53,000 workers worldwide. This includes 28,000 US workers, of which 9,000 in Greater Cincinnati and northern Kentucky. Approximately 3,700 workers are represented by the union.
What prompted you to strike?
UAW Local 647 and its labor leaders are negotiating the terms of the new contract to exchange contracts that expired from late July until August 27th. Union officials say that members have withstand a 36% increase in health insurance costs since 2021.
The company said it provided over $29,000 to the average worker over the course of its three-year contract. Company officials also said they provided paid leave, increased pay for sick and individuals, and “significant” increases in additional leave days.
What is the company’s financial position?
Last year, the company reported profits of $6.7 billion with revenue of $38.7 billion.
What happens next?
The union vowed to attack and picket two local facilities until better conditions were on the table.
