WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump announced that a U.S. delegation, including several gold medal winning athletes and several diplomats, will attend the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games.
Vice President J.D. Vance and second daughter Usha Vance will lead the delegation.
Players on the squad included twins Jocelyn Lamoureux-Davidson and Monique Lamoureux-Morando, who played on the 2018 U.S. women’s hockey team, which won gold in South Korea and defeated Canada, which had held the top spot for the Olympic berth for 20 years.
Jocelyn Lamoureux-Davidson scored the winning goal in a shootout with Canadian goaltender Shannon Zabodos, clinching the fifth game. Monique Lamoureux-Morando scored the equalizer in regulation. Both played on teams that won silver medals in 2010 and 2014.
The delegation’s gold medalists include Apolo Ohno, who won short track speed skating in 2002 and 2006, and Evan Lysacek, who won figure skating in 2010. Ohno added a silver medal and several bronze medals to his trophy case in 2010, making him America’s most decorated Winter Olympian.
Diplomats on the delegation include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the U.S. ambassador to Italy, and billionaire businessman Tilman Fertitta, who owns Landry’s Restaurants, the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino, and the Houston Rockets basketball team. Fertitta wrote a best-selling book titled “Shut Up and Listen!”
The opening ceremony is scheduled for February 6th in Milan, Italy.
