President Trump reacts to Washington DC mass shooting, calls suspect ‘animal’

Date:

After two National Guard soldiers were shot in the nation’s capital on the eve of Thanksgiving, President Donald Trump called the suspects “animals” and said he would pay for their crimes.

The shooting occurred on Wednesday afternoon, November 26, near the White House in central Washington, DC. The suspected gunman was also injured, the president said in a post on Truth Social.

President Trump, who was at the Florida resort Mar-a-Lago at the time of the shooting, said on his Truth Social platform that the suspect was “seriously injured” and that he would “pay a very high price.”

The name of the Guardsman who was shot was not immediately known. Washington, D.C., police confirmed that a suspect is in custody, but authorities have not yet released a suspect.

“God bless our National Guard and all of our military and law enforcement,” President Trump said in a social media post. “These are truly great people. As President of the United States, I and everyone in the Office of the President stand with you!”

Authorities closed several government buildings in response to the shooting.

This is a developing story.
