President Trump awards Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom
President Trump is planning a celebration at the White House to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to the late Charlie Kirk.
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump announced he will posthumously award the Medal of Freedom to slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a White House gala next week.
President Trump said he was rushing back to the United States from Israel and Egypt for a ceremony in Kirk’s memory following a trip in which he helped secure a cease-fire in Gaza and an agreement to release hostages.
“We’re going to have a great celebration at the White House,” President Trump said in the Oval Office. President Trump said on October 10 that Kirk was “a friend of mine, a friend of all of us.”
The president said Kirk’s wife, Erica, will also attend the East Room event, which will be held on the evening of Oct. 14.
Kirk was killed on September 10th while attending Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The next day, President Trump said he would bestow the late conservative influencer with the highest civilian honor.
The 31-year-old co-founder of the youth activist group Turning Point USA had close political ties to the White House, and the president spoke at the funeral.
