WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump called the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, “terrible” and said he planned to call news anchors.

“I think it’s terrible,” President Trump told reporters after being asked about the incident in the Oval Office on Tuesday, February 3.

As Arizona law enforcement continues to search for Guthrie’s mother, who went missing this week, President Trump said he supports federal assistance. Police said they are treating her home as a crime scene.

The president told reporters this was a “very unusual situation,” adding that he had always liked Guthrie.

“I’m going to call her later,” Trump said.

Nancy Guthrie’s family reported her missing on Sunday, Feb. 1, from her home in the Catalina Foothills community just north of Tucson, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said during a Feb. 2 press conference that she was last seen the previous night, Saturday, Jan. 31, at approximately 9:45 p.m.

Nanos said Mr Guthrie was “suffering from some physical illness” and was taking medication that “could be fatal” if not taken within 24 hours.

On Monday, February 2, authorities confirmed that investigators believe Nancy Guthrie was “abducted from her home” and said the incident is being considered as a “possible kidnapping or abduction.” The FBI is assisting with the investigation.
