“Mayday” protests oppose Trump administration’s policies
“Mayday” protesters across the United States opposed President Donald Trump’s policies and billionaire Elon Musk’s influence on the White House.
President Donald Trump urged University of Alabama graduates to “look big” and “never give up.” But he had more to say.
In his May 1 speech, a mix of inspirational language typical of politics and opening speech, Trump denounced a judge who hampered former President Joe Biden’s management and his immigration moves.
“The last four years have not been good for our country,” Trump said. “We were run by people without clues, they didn’t have clues, and when I said that, I’m trying to be nice.
Trump touted his second term agenda, including tariffs that injected uncertainty into the economy, where thousands of graduates he dealt with immediately seeking employment. He predicted strong growth despite a shrinking gross domestic product, despite a slump of 0.3% in the first quarter, the worst quarterly performance in three years.
“Like many generations before you, you are graduating in an exciting time for our country, both times of extraordinary change and incredible possibilities, and times of incredible growth,” Trump said. “You’ll see it soon. You’ll see it starts very quickly.”
Trump complained about the high inflation under Biden. And at one point he admitted that his speech was “slightly political.”
The president also targeted the judiciary on the same day that a federal judge he appointed ruled that Trump could not use the Alien Enemy Act of 1798 to expel immigrants in Venezuela in southeastern Texas.
Trump has argued for a sharp decline in illegal crossings at the southwest border since he took office, but said “the court is trying to stop me from doing the work I’ve chosen to do.”
“The judges are interfering and are probably based on a legitimate process,” Trump said. “But how can we give a legitimate process to those who have come to our country illegally? They want to give them a legitimate process. I don’t know.”
The president also delved into the issue of transgender athletes competing in women’s sports, highlighting the Gulf of Mexico’s name change to the US Gulf and forced praise at the University of Alabama athletic program. Former Alabama football coach Nick Saban spoke before the president.
Trump’s speech was on the verge of blasphemy when the tech leader hated him, but said, “Now I’m kissing my (exp)”. The Alabama crowd that Trump carried with a big margin in the 2024 presidential election has praised him for a long time.
Trump has unearthed and closed it at Harvard University, an agency his administration has targeted in a $2.3 billion funding freeze and federal civil rights investigation.
“The next chapter in the American story is not written by Harvard Crimson. It will be written by you, the Crimson Tide,” he said.
