Early predictions show that the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season will bring months of danger to millions of Americans, beginning when it begins well before the storm forms.
Officials from the National Maritime and Atmospheric Administration said that the most dangerous storms could explode quickly, so understanding predictions, hurricane risks and preparations must be the best for residents before the storm forms.

When will the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season begin?
The Atlantic Basin, which includes storms that form in the Atlantic, the Caribbean and the American Gulf (formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico), will last from June 1st to November 30th.
The peak of the Atlantic Season is usually from mid-August to mid-October.
In the Eastern Pacific Basin, hurricane season begins on May 15th and continues until November 30th.
Hurricane Season Prediction: How many storms are expected?
On May 22, federal forecasters predicted a 60% chance of exceeding the average season. (The typical year averages around 14 tropical storms, seven of which spin into hurricanes based on weather records from 1991 to 2020.)
Specifically, NOAA predicts the range of 13-19 named storms (winds above 39 mph). Of these, 6-10 are predicted to be hurricanes (winds above 74 mph) that include 3-5 major hurricanes (category 3, 4, or 5, 111 mph or more).
An expert at Colorado State University said in its first forecast released in early April that a positive Atlantic hurricane season is likely. They predicted a maximum of 17 storms.
Of these 17 storms, researchers said nine people would become hurricanes.
Predictions from Accuweather, which appeared in April, called a storm named 13-18. Of these, 7-10 are hurricanes.
Last year, 18 storms formed, including devastating Hurricanes Helen and Milton.
Are there the most hurricanes?
Florida, with a wide margin. Since the start of the accurate hurricane record in 1851, more than 120 hurricanes have landed in Florida. Texas is second, with 66 hits.
And 40% of all US hurricanes hit Florida, according to NOAA.
How do I prepare for the hurricane season?

- Write down your family emergency plans with family and close friends and decide how you will contact each other on the emergency situation, where you will go and what you will do. Keep copies on your mobile phone, emergency supplies and share them with your family.
- A basic emergency kit is packed together with stable food on water and shelf, flashlights, backup batteries, first aid kits and wet towels for up to a week.
- Check your insurance policy to see if there is adequate coverage, including flood coverage.
- Share your insurance contract, home photos, their contents and other important papers with your safe location, electronic files, and/or family.

What is the most expensive hurricane in US history?
For all U.S. hurricane Katrina (2005, $201.3 billion) is the most expensive storm on record, according to NOAA.
Hurricane Harvey (2017, $160 billion) ranked 2nd, Hurricane Ian (2022, $119.6 billion) ranked 3rd, Hurricane Maria (2017, $115.2 billion) ranked 4th, and Hurricane Sandy (2012, $88.5 billion) ranked 5th.
What is rapid strengthening?
