An Illinois dairy cooperative is recalling several gallons of nonfat milk because it may contain food-grade cleaning products.
Prairie Farms, headquartered in Edwardsville, Illinois, is recalling approximately 320 gallons of Prairie Farms nonfat milk produced at its Dubuque, Iowa, facility. The milk was distributed to Woodman’s Markets in Illinois and Wisconsin, according to a company announcement on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s website.
The company announced on Nov. 24 that it has learned that some of its nonfat milk may contain food-grade detergents that can cause illness if ingested, according to a recall notice. After an investigation, Prairie Farms withdrew some milk from its stores and initiated a recall on November 25th. But about 320 gallons were sold before the problem was discovered, the company said.
