The suspect in the car that injured dozens of fans who celebrated Liverpool’s Premier League title on Monday appeared in court after police charged him with various crimes.
Paul Doyle, 53, from the city’s suburbs in northwestern England, spoke to him to confirm his name at his first hearing Friday.
According to a media reporter for the PA, Doyle appeared emotional when he was brought to court from his cell, wearing a black suit.
The British Crown Prosecutor’s Service approved several charges against the fathers of three on Thursday. This includes dangerous driving, causing serious physical harm (GBH), causing injury with intent to cause GBH, and attempted GBH.
The incident shocked the city and the world of football as cars turned across a crammed street in the heart of Liverpool, plowing through the crowds of people.

Police previously said the vehicle that attacked a pedestrian could enter Water Street. A total of 79 victims were injured in the crash, of which 79 remained in the hospital, police said Thursday.
As police investigations continue, Doyle’s charges will be retained during review, CPS Mersey-Cheshire’s Supreme King’s Prosecutor Sarah Hammond said Thursday.
“The investigation is in its early stages. Prosecutors and police continue to work at a pace to review the vast amount of evidence,” Hammond said.
“This includes multiple video footage and numerous witness statements. It is important to ensure that all victims get the justice they deserve,” she added.
