After a five-year, $37 million makeover, Norwich Castle Keep has reopened with all five floors open to the public for the first time.

The 12th century castle was commissioned by the conqueror William, and over 900 Norman artifacts were rented out from the British Museum to establish medieval galleries outside the British capital.

All five-storey Norwich Castle buildings are open to the public for the first time.

Norwich Castle Keep was one of the first castles built after the British conquest of Norman. This was the battle depicted in the French Bayou Tapestry (now undergoing its own renovation) and a show of domination and fame.

Its robust 900-year-old wall was built with Caen Limestone, imported from Normandy, France, in the enduring will of Norman Power. If you want to explore beyond the UK’s most popular tourist hotspots, this might be a good place to start.

Bodrum Castle, located on the Bodrum Peninsula in southwestern Türkiye, is a historic and incredible Matrioshka doll.

The castle in the 15th century was built by the Knights of St. John. St. John was strengthened using the stone of a 4th century Mortholeum near Halicarnassus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

Since the 1960s, it has one of the few underwater archaeological museums in the world, featuring over 3,000 years of sailor displays and historic shipwrecks. Dive deeper with Bodrum’s interactive timeline.

12 hours before World War II ended, the United States bombed the Kumagaya city in Japan. Eighty years later, the scars of the air raid remained, with one survivor explaining it as “absolutely stupid.” To celebrate the anniversary, CNN visited the city and met with people who had overcome the bombing.

“Dark Tourism,” a site visit related to tragedy, is a well-represented topic, with fine lines walking between memorialism and sensationalism. The UNESCO World Heritage List recognizes places that are considered important to humanity, and atrocities can sometimes be part of it.

The debate reignited in July, when Cambodia’s Kumer Rouge torture site was added to the list, 50 years after the rise in power in the communist government.
