Ollie’s Bargain Outlet says the early returns were positive after surpassing 18 stores from Big Lots, which filed for bankruptcy in 2024.
Between January and May, Ollie’s opened 25 new stores nationwide – a record of Pennsylvania-based retailers. Of these stores, 18 were former Biglot locations.
Earlier this year, Ollie filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September 2024, thus acquiring 40 big lot locations through auctions. As of May 3, Ollie’s operates 584 stores in 32 states.
“These stores are off to a very strong start,” Ollie CEO Eric Van Der Valk said of the new stores during a revenue call on June 3rd.
In addition to opening the new store, Ollie saw a 13.4% increase in sales in the first quarter, with a total revenue of $576.8 million, according to a news release.
With the slogan “Good Stuff Cheap,” Ollie’s is a discount retailer offering low prices and overstocking. Retailers sell items such as clothing, home goods, toys, hardware, food, books and more.
