North Korea stage new missile test, send warnings to enemy
North Korea said it had tested its most powerful intercontinental ballistic missile to date, or ICBM. State media KCNA has reported that leader Kim Jong Un is on hand for the release.
North Korea has detained a shipyard official responsible for a recent major accident during the launch of a new warship, state media said on Sunday.
The failed launch that crippled a 5,000-ton warship was witnessed by state leader Kim Jong, who said the accident had vowed to hurt the dignity of the nation and punished those responsible.
The calamity likely occurred in front of a large crowd at a port in northeastern Jeongjin, which increased the public humiliation of Kim for trying to show off her military power, experts say.
As the lawsuit’s investigation intensifies, law enforcement has arrested the chief engineer at the Chongjin Shipyard, the provincial KCNA news agency reported on Sunday.
Images of the satellite show warships covered in blue tarpaulins, according to the US-based Strategic Research Center.
Kim ordered the ship to be restored before the ruling party meeting in June. KCNA said the rehabilitation plan is moving forward.
In response to the accumulation of US troops in the region, North Korean troops “will thoroughly contain and control all sorts of military threats from enemy countries,” KCNA said in another dispatch, citing the Ministry of Defense policy director.
