Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. has announced a new in-car audio system that adjusts sound based on the driver’s unique hearing patterns.
Your car’s audio system is one of its most important features, and its quality varies from car manufacturer to car manufacturer. Nissan plans to add a new feature called Personalized Sound to some Nissan and Infiniti vehicles. Settings can be customized on the center infotainment screen and support multiple user profiles for in-car sound and Bluetooth music apps.
Nissan, which announced the new system on December 15, says it is the first of its kind in the U.S. auto industry.
How does it work?
An audio system that adjusts to your hearing may sound complicated, but Nissan says it’s easy to set up and can be completed in about three minutes.
First, download the Personalized Sound app from the Google Play Store for your Nissan or Infiniti vehicle. When you open the app, it will do some sound tests by playing different tones and pitches. After providing feedback about each sound on your car’s infotainment screen, the audio system creates a personalized profile based on your hearing.
This setting can be adjusted to fine-tune the 10-band equalizer at frequencies from 50 Hertz to 1,200 Hertz. Additional drivers can be tested to create additional personalized sound profiles.
How was it made?
Nissan senior product planner Mitchell Pope first proposed the idea in early 2024, the company said.
“We love the level of customization that some premium headphones offer, so we wanted to bring that to the automotive world,” Pope said in a news release. He also talked about how Nissan wants to provide a personalized experience for each user. “After taking the test, most drivers will notice a distinct difference in the new audio profile,” Pope said. “They often hear details they didn’t notice before, even in songs they’ve heard many times. But best of all, they know their audio was customized just for them.”

Personalized Sound is free to download and available only in Google-powered Nissan and Infiniti vehicles, including those already on the road. The following vehicles are currently equipped with this feature:
