Deploying the National Guard into DC costs $1.8 million per day
The National Guard, which President Donald Trump deploys in Washington, DC, is projected to spend $2 million on taxpayers. That amounts to over $1.8 million a day.
WASHINGTON – California Governor Gavin Newsom sued President Donald Trump, claiming that the chief commander deployed 300 California National Guard troops in Oregon.
“After federal court blocked an attempt to federate the Oregon National Guard, Donald Trump has deployed 300 California National Guard personnel in Oregon. They’re there right now,” Newsom said in an October 5th post on X, adding that he’s “returning this fight back to court.”
Newsom’s comments come after a federal judge temporarily blocked Trump from deploying 200 Oregon National Guard troops in Portland on October 4th. The decision was made in response to a September 28 lawsuit from the office of Dunleyfield, the Democratic Attorney General of Oregon.
The lawsuit comes the day after Trump said he would send troops to Portland to protect federal immigration facilities from “domestic terrorists” while protesting outside of local ice fields.
Trump-appointed US District Judge Karin Imargat said there was no evidence that the president prevented the president from sending troops until at least October 18th, with the recent protests escalating to the level of rebellion or seriously obstructing law enforcement.
One of the most powerful critics of Democrats of Trump and one of the candidates for the next White House race, Newsom previously accused the Republican administration of being overreached amid the national crackdown on immigration.
“The deployment of California National Guard to Oregon is not about crime,” Newsom said in another post on October 5th.
Trump previously deployed members of the National Guard to Los Angeles to suppress anti-immigrant protests. The president’s extensive immigration efforts were at the heart of the 2024 reelection campaign.
