Streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Apple TV, and Amazon’s Prime Video offer tons of new movies for all kinds of different tastes. Even if you didn’t see it in theaters, there are movies that were released in theaters, such as the boxing biopic about Sidney Sweeney and the Vietnam War movie that features dinosaurs. But don’t sleep on the notable original movies, including a dark comedy co-starring Keanu Reeves and Cameron Diaz and a shark thriller starring Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor.

“Christy”

A brash and vulnerable Sydney Sweeney plays the Queen of Punch-Outs in the biopic that follows Christy Martin from West Virginia teen to the world’s most famous female boxer. The film depicts Christie’s toxic marriage to her hated trainer/husband (Ben Foster) and her delicate relationship with a fellow boxer (Katie O’Brian).

“Crime 101”

Chris Hemsworth plays a high-end jewelry thief who is after a lot of money in the crime thriller. He teams up with a disillusioned insurance agent (Halle Berry) to take on an $11 million heist, but she wants the big bucks, but a tenacious detective (Mark Ruffalo) and a young would-be criminal (Barry Keoghan) could ruin the plan.

“Death Stalker”

This tongue-in-cheek, hilariously gory remake of a 1980s action fantasy is here for anyone in need of absurdist escapism. Daniel Barnhart is Deathstalker, a legendary swordsman who wears a cursed amulet, befriends a swamp monster and teams up with a little wizard (voiced by Patton Oswalt) to stop dark magic from taking over the land.

“Five Nights at Freddy’s 2”

The horror sequel sees Josh Hutcherson and Elizabeth Lail return to face new foes and the ferocious animatronic animals from Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Robot characters break out of a restaurant rest area and wreak havoc on the town, while villainous marionettes emerge and possess their victims for their own nefarious purposes.

“Merrily We Roll Along”

Did you see the Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “Merrily We Roll Along”? This live recording stars Jonathan Groff and the ever-great Daniel Radcliffe as talented but turbulent creative partners, and Lindsay Mendes as their best friend, in a witty story that follows the ups and downs of the trio’s relationship.

In Jonah Hill’s Hollywood satire, Keanu Reeves plays a beloved movie star who tracks down a mysterious blackmailer and discovers that many people actually hate him. Matt Bomer and Cameron Diaz are his best friends from high school, and Hill plays his lawyer in crisis in this dark comedy of absurdity but surprisingly tenderness.

In the gonzo college comedy, Gaten Matarazzo and Sean Giambrone play roommates who discover an experimental drug left on the ceiling of their dorm room 10 years ago. Pizza is the only thing that can stop the crazy phase of your brain-bending journey, but you’ll have to overcome obstacles on the second floor to get the pie.

“Primitive War”

This is the perfect B-movie for those who wanted to see a cross between “Platoon” and “Jurassic Park.” The action thriller, set in Vietnam circa 1968, stars Ryan Kwanten as the leader of an Army reconnaissance unit. You’re tasked with searching for a missing Green Beret platoon and discovering in their place a dinosaur alien world filled with murderous raptors and ferocious Tyrannosaurus rex.

“Slash”

A good way to avoid sharks is to stay out of the water, but what happens when one approaches? This sharp action movie centers on a coastal town in South Carolina that has been destroyed by a hurricane. A school of bull sharks swims through the floodwaters and threatens local residents, including a pregnant woman (Phoebe Dynevor) and an agoraphobic teenage boy (Whitney Peake).

“28 Years Later: The Bone Temple”

You’ve never lived until you’ve seen Ralph Fiennes do some intense performance art and sing Iron Maiden’s “The Number of the Beast” in a horror movie. The sequel improves on “28 Years Later” with a masterful study of religion and science, with Fiennes playing a doctor trying to save people and the flamboyant and creepy Jack O’Connell playing the leader of a Satan-worshipping cult.
