Fifty-six years after “Sesame Street” hit TV screens, the popular children’s show is opening its brownstone doors on Netflix for the first time.
On November 3, the streamer previewed the first season, releasing the first trailer and images of upcoming episodes. The first look shows Elmo, Bert, Ernie, Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, Grover, Rosita, and other friends playing together in both animated and live-action formats.
According to a Netflix press release, “Episodes invite kids to play together in new ways, taking viewers inside the world’s most famous brownstone for the first time, and featuring celebrity guests, original music, engaging animation, and, as always, plenty of laughs.”
Guests on the “Reimagined” program include NASCAR champion Bubba Wallace;
What happened to “Sesame Street”?
In late 2024, Warner Bros. Discovery, home of HBO Max, decided not to renew its contract with “Sesame Street” after a nearly decade-long partnership that saw old content rebroadcast on PBS while new episodes were released on the streaming platform.
And in May, Netflix announced that not only had it acquired the Emmy-winning show, but new episodes of “Sesame Street” would air on its own PBS network for the first time in a decade.
When will “Sesame Street” premiere on Netflix?
The first episode will be available on Netflix on Monday, Nov. 10, the 56th anniversary of “Sesame Street.”
The show will “feature an interactive, immersive and visually stunning 11-minute story that puts young viewers at the center of the action,” and episodes will be released in three separate “volumes.” Volume 1 contains four 30-minute episodes.
The streamer says the show will launch in more than 30 languages.
