National Bagel Day, Thursday, January 15th, is a day to celebrate a truly classic food that originated in the 13th century and migrated to the United States in the 19th century. According to National Geographic, the name comes from the Polish word “bajgiel,” which means ring-shaped bread, and the Yiddish word “beygal.”
According to a December survey of 1,000 people for Einstein Bros. Bagels’ 2026 State of Bagels report, the top five most popular bagel flavors in the U.S. are Plain (No. 1), Asiago (No. 2), Everything (No. 3), Six Cheese (No. 4) and Cheddar Jalapeño (No. 5). According to our survey, what are your favorite schmear flavors? Plain Cream Cheese (No. 1), Garden Veggie (No. 2), Honey Almond (No. 3), and Jalapeno Salsa (No. 4).

- Einstein Brothers Bagel: Get a free bagel & schmear with any purchase on January 15th. Just say “National Bagel Day” when ordering your freebie at the bakery.
- H&H Bagel: Members of the H&H Rewards loyalty program can get a free bagel and spread sandwich on National Bagel Day, Thursday, January 15th. Get rewards when you order online or through the app (scan at checkout in store).
- Panera Bread: On National Bagel Day, when you purchase an Asiago Bagel Stack, you can use the code BOGOSTACK to get a second stack of your choice for free. Panera has added three types of breakfast Asiago bagel stacks, including the Wake Up BLT Asiago Everything Bagel Stack with bacon, scrambled eggs, tomato, arugula, salt and pepper, and cheese Benedict sauce. And there’s a new Jenga-like Stack & Spill game ($7.99) inspired by the look of Asiago Bagel Stacks.
