Something you purchased has been recalled. What does that mean?
What happens if something you purchase is recalled? Is it voluntary or mandatory? And what does it mean for you?
Pharmaceutical companies have expanded recalls of nasal spray products due to the potential for yeast, mold and microbial contamination that can cause infections.
MediNatura New Mexico, Inc. announced its latest recall on Tuesday, December 16, just one week after the company recalled one lot of ReBoost nasal spray. The latest recall includes all lots of ReBoost Nasal Spray and ClearLife Allergy Nasal Spray.
The Albuquerque, New Mexico-based company says its ReBoost spray has been found to contain yeast, mold and even microbial contamination. ClearLife Allergy Nasal Spray was found to contain microbial contamination that may be related to the same bacteria as the ReBoost brand.
“The use of this product by immunocompromised individuals may result in adverse health effects, including life-threatening infections,” Medinatura New Mexico said in a notice posted on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) website on Tuesday, Dec. 16.
Medinatura New Mexico says there have been no reports of injuries related to the recall.
USA TODAY reached out to Medinatura New Mexico on Wednesday, Dec. 17, but did not receive a response.
