Nancy Pelosi announces retirement after groundbreaking career

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on November 6th that she will not run for another term, ending a groundbreaking career that made her the most powerful woman in the nation’s history.

“I have no intention of seeking re-election to Congress.” She said so in a six-minute video addressed to voters that begins with “Dear San Francisco.”

  • State Rep. Scott Wiener He has already announced that he will seek the Democratic nomination next year, and it is certain that other candidates will follow suit in pursuit of firmly Democratic seats.
  • During two stints as Pelosi, the highest-ranking member of Congress, led the two impeachments of President Donald Trump and orchestrated efforts to persuade President Joe Biden to withdraw his bid for a second term.

Flight reduction begins due to airport closure

Nearly 40 days into the longest government shutdown in history, 40 major U.S. airports are cutting flights by 10%, citing pressure on unpaid air traffic controllers. Federal Aviation Administration Administrator Brian Bedford told CEOs of major airlines that the cuts would start at 4% on Friday, Nov. 7, increase to 5% on Nov. 8, 6% on Nov. 9, and reach 10% next week. “This will lead to an increase in cancellations, but we will work with the airlines to address this in a planned manner,” Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said at a press conference on Nov. 5.

Judge orders Trump administration to fully fund SNAP in November

A federal judge in Rhode Island has ordered the Trump administration to fully pay for federal food aid for 42 million Americans in November by Friday. The Nov. 6 order came days after the Trump administration announced it would only provide partial food stamp benefits in November. The administration quickly moved to appeal the order, leaving it unclear whether SNAP benefits would be paid in full by Friday.

Search for answers continues after UPS plane crash

As the Louisville, Kentucky, community mourns those killed in the United Parcel Service cargo plane crash, authorities warned that answers for the families may still be a long way off. At least 13 people, including three crew members, were killed and several others injured in the Nov. 4 accident, officials said. The death toll may continue to rise as a slow investigation into the cause begins. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said at the vigil that the 13th victim died on Nov. 6 at an area hospital. The mayor said earlier in the day that nine people were still missing.

2026 Grammy nominations announced

Nominations for next year’s 68th Grammy Awards will be announced on Friday. Will Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, and Bad Bunny be on the roster? At the 67th Annual Grammy Awards in February, Chapel Lawn won Best New Artist, and Kendrick Lamar won both Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Beyoncé and “Cowboy Carter” won both Best Country Album and Album of the Year, the biggest awards of the night. The 2026 Grammy Awards will be held on February 1st at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra returned from an NBA trip early Thursday morning to find his South Florida home engulfed in flames. Spoelstra, who was recently named the U.S. men’s basketball coach until the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, was seen on video surveying the damage outside the scene after the team’s plane arrived in the Miami area. The cause and origin of the fire was not immediately known, but no injuries were reported.
