Mr. Clean, who has been cleaning up messes for more than 60 years, is “retiring”.

At a press conference on Thursday, February 18, Mr. Crean announced that he would be “quitting white” and taking a much-needed vacation.

“After a career with an unblemished record, he is ready for a new adventure,” the announcer can be heard saying. “But don’t worry, his products will continue to be available to support all your cleaning needs.”

Introduced in 1958, Mr. Clean’s first name was “Veritively,” and it “immediately became a favorite with families around the world, quickly becoming synonymous with cleaning power.” His famous jingle was released a year later in 1959.

The Procter & Gamble-owned brand said Crean’s “retirement” was in conjunction with the March 4 announcement.

“The rumors are true! I am retiring and bidding farewell to the cleaning world to pursue a new hobby,” Crean said in a statement. “Call Veritively today. There will be no changes to our packaging or branding, but we are taking a short break. We will provide further details in due course.”

Here’s what we know:

Fans shocked and disappointed by Crean’s retirement

Those most shocked by Mr. Crean’s announcement were fans and customers who were either shocked, disappointed, or both. Some implored him to reconsider.

“Awww @mrclean is back!!! Literally from when I was a kid watching these commercials. I love watching this content,” one user said in the comments of a Feb. 18 Instagram post.

Brands including Instacart and Old Spice wrote in comments to pray for Mr. Crean and say he will be missed.

While quite a few fans were delighted to learn that Mr. Clean would be taking a break, many were left wondering what he’d do next now that he’s retired from cleaning.

One user who identified himself as @snowphiesadventures wrote, “I’m not ready for him to retire, so is it selfish to say I hope he gets a job making a mess and we clean it up for him?”

The brand, owned by Procter & Gamble, is asking curious fans to “pay attention.”

Mr. Clean said Veritary has inspired many cleaning products, dolls, masks and various cleaning phones over the years. His tough, fearless, and inventive persona helps remove dirt, grease, and grime.

What does this mean for Mr. Clean products?

According to the Mr. Clean brand, “no changes have been made to the packaging or brand name.”
