More than 600,000 water bottles recalled due to unsanitary packaging

More than 600,000 bottles of water have been recalled because they were “bottled in unsanitary conditions,” according to a Food and Drug Administration enforcement report.

Wisconsin-based bottler Valley Springs Artesian Gold announced a recall of 651,148 bottles of water on February 6 due to unsanitary conditions during production, according to an FDA enforcement report. On February 26, the FDA classified the recall as Class II, or when exposure to the product could cause “temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects.”

USA TODAY contacted Valley Springs Artesian Gold on Feb. 27 but did not receive a response.

  • Valley Springs 1 Gallon Toddler Water (“Not sterile. Use as directed by your doctor or as directed on the label for use with infant formula.”) (UPC 0 31193-01401 7)
  • Valley Springs 1 Gallon Daisy’s Doggy Water (“100% pure water. Contains no chlorine.”) (UPC 0 31193-90100 3)
  • Valley Springs 1 Gallon 100% Natural Bottled Water (UPC 0 31193-01301 0)
  • Valley Springs 1 gallon distilled water (UPC 0 31193-00601 2)

Where were the recalled water bottles sold?

According to an FDA enforcement report, the recalled bottled water was sold at retail stores in Illinois and Wisconsin. The report does not list specific retailers that carried the recalled products.

What to do if you have recalled bottled water

The FDA said customers with recalled bottled water should immediately stop using it.
