Miss Mexico wins Miss Universe 2025 title
Miss Mexico Fatima Bosch has won Miss Universe 2025 in Thailand, weeks after a controversy that resulted in her receiving a public apology.
The chaotic Miss Universe news cycle did not end when the winner of the 2025 pageant was crowned on November 21, and a few days later, fourth runner-up Olivia Yasse publicly severed ties with Miss Universe and resigned from the title of Miss Universe Africa and Oceania.
The 27-year-old, who represented Ivory Coast in the Bangkok competition, said in an Instagram post on Nov. 24 that she is relinquishing the title and ending her membership on the Miss Universe committee because she wants to uphold the values that are dear to her heart.
“Despite adversity, I have seen that great things are possible. But to continue on this path, I must remain true to my values, the strongest pillars that guide me: respect, dignity, excellence, and equal opportunity,” Yasse wrote.
The model did not reveal why she left the pageant after it was hit with a number of scandals.
In her post, Yase said she needed to step down as an ambassador in order to reach her full potential and continue to be a role model for a new generation of young girls, encouraging them to “push their limits, confidently walk into rooms where they believe they don’t belong, and proudly embrace their identity.”
“It is this determination to have a positive impact that guides my decision today. Stepping away from this diminished role in Miss Universe Africa and Oceania will allow me to fully focus on upholding the values I hold dear,” she added.
Mr. Yasse’s action follows the 2025 contest, which made headlines ahead of the Nov. 21 ceremony. Controversies included the Thai national pageant director’s condemnation of Mr. Fernandes, Judge Omar Harfouche’s claims of voter fraud when he resigned days before the show, and the investigation of Raul Rocha Cantu on drug, gun and fuel trafficking charges.
USA TODAY has reached out to the Miss Universe Organization for comment.
Olivia Yassé congratulates Miss Universe winner Fatima Bosch Fernandes
In his resignation post, Yasse congratulated Miss Mexico 2025 winner Fatima Bosch Fernandez and wished the best to Jamaica’s Gabrielle Henry, who fell off the stage during an evening dress contest, leading to even more unfavorable pageant coverage.
“I would also like to congratulate the new Miss Universe. I also wish Miss Universe Jamaica a speedy recovery and send all my love,” Yasse wrote, without naming Fernandez or Henry.
She also encouraged Black, African, Caribbean, American and African-descendant communities to continue entering places where they are not expected.
“Let us pave the way for our brothers and sisters who will come after us. Never let anyone define us or limit our potential. Our presence matters and our voices must be heard,” she wrote.
She continued, “I am deeply grateful for the support I have received and the unforgettable experiences that have shaped me. I will continue on this journey unlike any other with the same determination to uplift and inspire. Thank you to everyone who has joined me on this extraordinary adventure. Let’s continue to uphold our values and strive for greatness together.”
