HHS releases a controversial report on gender-affirming care
US Health and Human Services have published a report reviewing medical interventions for minors seeking gender-affirming care. In a 400-page review published on May 1, the unnamed author determined that there was a lack of evidence to support interventions such as adolescent blockers, sex hormones, and surgery, highlighting the potential risks despite most healthcare providers and experts supporting the benefits. According to a statement from HHS, physicians, medical ethicists and methodologists contributed to the report, but the institution refused to provide names to its contributors. read more

Alec Baldwin’s “Rust” hits the theater after the director of cinema is killed on set
Alec Baldwin’s tormented Western film “Rust” hit theaters, and it was on video-on-demand on May 2nd. That release raises a thorny question: Is it okay to watch this movie? During a rehearsal in New Mexico on October 21, 2021, Baldwin’s guns were discharged from the hospital and killed 42-year-old cinematographer Harina Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza. To some, watching the film may seem like a horrible voyeurism, even if the scene in question is not part of the final cut. Supporting the film for others, including Hutchins’ colleagues and family, pays tribute to the ultimate artistic pursuit of his late wife, daughter and friend. read more
Fans fell off the stands in a Pirates Cubs game in a critical state
A fan who fell from the stands into the track during an April 30 Pirates Chicago Cubs game in Pittsburgh was identified as Bag Markwood, remaining in danger on May 1. Pittsburgh Public Safety said the incident was being treated as an accident. A spokesman for the South Allegheny School District told Athletic that Mark Wood, a 2022 graduate of South Allegheny High School, was a fan of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review and South Allegheny High School, was a fallen fan. “He’s a fighter. He’s going to need that resilience right now, but he has it,” spokesman Laura Thomson told the Tribune Review. read more

With the Kentucky Derby scheduled for tomorrow, final preparations for the horse racing marquee triple crown race are underway. Bob Baffert’s Late Scratch trained Rodriguez on Thursday, rocking the field and allowing Baeza to enter the race. Rodriguez was receiving a slot in the post position at No. 4, but Baeza wears No. 21, runs out of gate No. 20, and most of the field slides down to one place. So who wins?
