House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) said Monday, Feb. 23, that the family of a slain Louisiana state trooper will be among the guests at President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
In an interview with Fox News, Prime Minister Johnson said he would invite Mark Tyler Bullock’s mother and fiance to tomorrow night’s State of the Union address.
“I am honored to have Shirley Bullock-Dennis and Cambree Smith, the mother and fiancée of Vivian Police Officer Mark Bullock, as our guests at the State of the Union, where Officer Bullock tragically lost his life in the line of duty in November,” Johnson told the outlet.
In addition to Block’s family, Mr Johnson also invited Ziba Murat, the daughter of a Uyghur doctor who has been imprisoned in China for more than seven years.
Who is Mark Tyler Brock?
Bullock, who was 25 years old at the time of her death in November 2025, was killed while attempting to serve an arrest warrant against a man accused of cyberstalking in Vivian, Louisiana, about 300 kilometers east of Dallas, local media outlet KLFY reported.
Vivant is located in Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District, which Johnson represents.
Bullock is a lifelong Vivian resident who began his career with the Vivian Police Department as a dispatcher at age 20, according to KSLA. A year later, he signed on as a part-time police officer and soon became a full-time officer.
Who is Ziva Murat?
Murat’s mother, Dr. Gulshan Abbas, has been detained in China since 2018. According to The Hill, Murat said his mother was detained in retaliation for her aunt’s activism against China’s treatment of the Uyghur people.
“As we continue to shine an international spotlight on China’s human rights abuses and call for the release of all those unjustly detained, I am honored to welcome Dr. Abbas’s daughter Ziva Murat as a guest at President Trump’s State of the Union address,” said Prime Minister Johnson.
