Some of the night’s most emotional moments didn’t air on Netflix’s Actor Awards broadcast. This is what reporters on the ground observed when the camera turned away.
LOS ANGELES – Despite the backdrop of global conflict, the Actor’s Awards ceremony maintained a cheerful and celebratory atmosphere as Hollywood stars let loose at the ceremony.
The March 1 ceremony, formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards, featured some fun off-camera moments, including “One Battle After the Other” star Teyana Taylor holding court on the red carpet with her 5-year-old daughter Ru, and Demi Moore making delicate fashion choices.
But the acting awards took on a somber tone as Hollywood recently mourned the loss of one of its own, Catherine O’Hara. The trophy was awarded posthumously, but Seth Rogen, uncharacteristically insecure, accepted it.
We captured moments that weren’t aired on Netflix’s live broadcast.

The acting awards have been renamed and now streamed at home, as well as added fanfare for the nominees walking the carpet. On their way to the pre-ceremony reception, the stars passed a seating area filled with social media influencers.
Spotting a crowd of fans, Teyana Taylor put on a show, leading Rue into the audience as she danced. Her youngest daughter popped in and out of Taylor’s interviews with social media creators with microphones, and at one point wandered across the carpet to the press line to admire Hailey Khalil’s elaborate nails.

Fran Drescher and Sheryl Lee Ralph receive red carpet fanfare
Some actors, like Taylor, made it up for loud influencers. Fran Drescher, the Marty Supreme actress, dressed smartly in a top hat and feathery pink stole, posed for the iPhone camera in a step-and-repeat style.
“Abbott Elementary” stars Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph also happily approached the influencer gallery to mingle, while actress and singer Sofia Carson gave them plenty of air kisses.
Demi Moore, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Emma Stone were more coy as they sped along the carpet and hit the waves. Sterling K. Brown shyly smiled on the field as the group celebrated the success of Season 2 of “Paradise.”
Emotional Seth Rogen turns to friend of late Catherine O’Hara
Rogen had the “very unfortunate honor” of winning the Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series trophy for The Studio after O’Hara’s death. An uncharacteristically serious Rogen gave a moving speech praising O’Hara. The “The Studio” host then solemnly turned to O’Hara’s “Best in Show” co-star Parker Posey and shared a long hug with the actress.
After their heated conversation, Rogen returned to the Apple TV show table and remained alone for a while, looking sad.
How did Demi Moore manage to sit in that giant tulle train?
A consummate professional, Demi Moore couldn’t resist an exuberant gown: a black Schiaparelli column gown with white tulle tails attached to the back with large black spots. After making it through the red carpet, Moore worked the ballroom and made a beeline for Ted Sarandos, president of Netflix, to give him a hug and hello.
After exchanging greetings with Billy Bob Thornton and his other “Landman” co-stars, Moore faced the daunting task of adjusting to his seat. She expertly accomplished this by carefully sitting down in a chair turned sideways, leaving room for the plush train.
Patrick Ball can’t understand his ‘Pit’ journey
The person having the most fun at the acting awards was “The Pit” star Patrick Ball, who was first spotted fooling around with co-star Aisa Briones at the pre-reception. Briones was furious as he took a photo of the undated Ball posing with his arm around the stereo speakers in the stands. In the ballroom, everyone raved about Ball’s choice of Thom Browne skirt, black socks, and black shoes. Ball did a little two-step dance for an amused Rufus Sewell.
Still, watching Ball take home the acting award was next-level emotion, as Ball declared it “unbelievable.”
“Like 18 months ago, I was working four jobs in Brooklyn,” Ball told USA TODAY afterward. “And the first thing that ignites catches fire. And now I’ve got this insane 1,000-pound statute. It’s all like a dream.”
Keri Russell says ‘It’s official’ as Matthew Rhys looks on
Keri Russell, who starred in The Diplomat, surprisingly won Best Actress in a Drama Series and gave a special St. David’s Day cheer to her Welsh partner Matthew Rhys from the stage. As Rhys proudly looked on, Russell excitedly received his trophy engraving at the afterparty, hugging fellow winner Michelle Williams and chatting at the wooden counter. When the acting trophy became personal, Russell turned to her husband, closed her eyes and declared, “This is official!”
Michael B. Jordan’s cries of exclamation continue as he leaves the acting awards party
“Sinners” won the big acting awards, with Michael B. Jordan taking home Best Actor, and the cast made a splash by winning the top award, Best Ensemble. Jordan arrived late to the official afterparty and was surrounded by fans and celebrants. He parked in front of both acting awards and stood at a private table with a big smile on his face.
After 20 minutes, his security ushered in what could best be described as a star extraction from the event. As Jordan stood outside waiting for his limousine, a group of mostly female fans in the parking lot of the University of Southern California, several floors above him, began screaming.
It dragged on so long that waiting “Hucks” star Gene Smart compared it to watching a Beatles concert live. “Boys don’t scream, but girls do. Why?” Smart wondered.
