Tax proposals from Republican House hearings on Medicaid
House Republicans defended bills that would enact a sweep tax cut, raise debt caps and benefit the program during the heated marathon day of the committee hearing at Capitol Hill. Three separate panels reviewed the laws on Tuesday that will be part of a larger package to implement President Donald Trump’s agenda. Democrats repeatedly denounced the wrapping as a gift for the wealthy at the expense of benefits programs such as Medicaid and food stamps. As the Medicaid hearing began, protesters began chanting, “There will be no Medicaid cuts!” They were escorted and 26 people were arrested. read more
RFK Jr. protects massive HHS budget cuts before two major committees
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has something to do. Almost four months after his new job, he will testify Wednesday before a Congressional Committee, who is expected to burn him on a variety of controversial topics, from the proposed budget cuts to the flip-flops of budget cuts as a preventative tool during the country’s measles outbreak. It comes after more than 100 Congressional Democrats signed a letter urging Kennedy to scrub planned budget cuts to eliminate key mental health services for LGBTQ+ youth. read more
